HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010 12-15 CCCM Centennial Celebration Meeting Notes December 15, 2010 Keith Lester called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Present: Keith Lester, Sharon Kephart, Margaret Sandberg, Wallace Bernards, Brent Haugen, Dr. Duane Orn, Warren Olson, Councilmember Dan Ryan, Phil Cohen, Dave Looby, Sue Low, Brett Hildreth and Sue LaCrosse. Proclamations Sharon Kephart has contacted the Governor’s office for a Go Red proclamation. She drafted information about the City of Brooklyn Center for the US Congressional report and sent it to Al Franken and Erik Paulsen’s offices in Washington DC for the senate and house. She has already heard back from Al Franken’s office and they were very excited. Sharon Kephart suggested the resolutions or proclamations are a little different for each office so that if a representative comes to read it at the Birthday Party, they aren’t all reading the same thing. Keith Lester said he will write the information for the proclamations for the State of Minnesota’s house, senate and the governor. Sharon Kephart said they need this ASAP. Keith Lester will contact Sharon Knutson in regards to a framed Centennial proclamation. Sharon Kephart reported that the American Flag for the City of Brooklyn Center will be flown over the US Capitol on January 1, 2011. We will receive the actual flag along with a certificate. Publicity Keith Lester reported the City Watch Centennial issue will cover everything we are doing and uses an old style print. He said he met with staff from the Sun Post. They want to be an official sponsor of the Centennial. There will be a full page insert coming out January 22. Budget We received a check for $1,000 from the American Legion and a check for $500 from Dr. Orn. Keith Lester has submitted a grant application to the Minnesota Arts Board. Events Keith Lester reported there will be a BC Birthday Bash in February. Staffs from all of the Brooklyn Center schools have been meeting. Each school will have about 5 minutes to sing. Everyone will sing Happy Birthday to Brooklyn Center and the BC Bash. On September 15 the schools will be honoring fire, police, and city staff. One school will honor police officers, another fire fighters and another will honor city staff. Then a few students from each school, along with police, fire, and city staff will meet on the upper level of city hall and community center. Keith Lester would like to hang a banner that would say Brooklyn Center Thanks. He would also like to have a picture taken of everyone in front of the Civic Center under the banner. Dr. Duane Orn reported that the City of Golden Valley celebrates their 125 anniversary next year. He asked if we would want to do anything in conjunction with them. Margaret said Golden Valley has a photography contest. People take pictures and then they are posted on the website. Sue LaCrosse will contact Wade Staebell to see if he would be interested in coordinating this activity. Church, school and ongoing events will have a special section on the website.
