FUNDRAISING IDEAS Brent Haugen said they raised $1,700 last month with an online auction. The Minnesota Historical Society has grants. Facebook allows for fundraising. Councilmember Lasman said Crime Prevention has a Facebook page. Brett Haugen said it is a little hard to get followers and suggests connecting with some organization that already has a page. Visit Minneapolis North sends out e-blasts. He suggested the committee meet with MN Explorer staff to see how they could help. There is a lot of press with biking. A bike-a-thon may be a way to raise money. There are a number of bike clubs. It could be billed as the “Ride of the Century.” Bike safety and/or maintenance could be held first to build to the event. Keith Lester suggested a kickoff to fundraising in late summer. It would be a barbeque where people would be charged for dinner. At the event, they would be asked for a donation. It may be tied to a silent auction and a ground breaking. CENTENNIAL PARK There was discussion on changing the name of Central Park to Centennial Park. Councilmember Lasman said she would bring up at the next work session to get on the list for future discussion. There is a precedent in changing park names. Brooklane Park was renamed Garden City Park and Garden City Park was renamed Central Park West. EVENTS A sample of a form to be used for event submission was discussed. The committee decided it would like some type of criteria developed. Some examples are proof of insurance, must be inclusive, minimum size, and have their own funds. Sue LaCrosse will research criteria ideas from other celebrations. Councilmember Lasman said Mound Cemetery has a Memorial Day event. We may want to include that. MERCHANDISE The committee picked out the merchandise that will be ordered. NEXT MEETING Next meeting is June 23, 5:30 p.m. in room 221 of the Community Center. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned. Respectfully Submitted, Sue LaCrosse, City Liaison 1
