HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011 01-05 CCCM Centennial Celebration Meeting Notes January 5, 2011 Sue LaCrosse called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Present: Sharon Kephart, Wallace Bernards, Dr. Duane Orn, Warren Olson, Councilmember Dan Ryan, Councilmember Kay Lasman, Phil Cohen, Dave Looby, Awale Osman, Joy Reinhart, Sue Low, Brett Hildreth and Sue LaCrosse. Fundraiser The committee discussed the proposed fundraiser on January 22. It was suggested we hold the fundraiser during the week because there would be a better chance to get business people there. Dave Looby suggested taking our time to do this right. Sharon Kephart said she could do the silent auction online as a separate event and have the ending date on the same date as the fundraiser. There was a motion by Dr. Duane Orn, seconded by Brett Hildreth to hold the fundraising event in March on a week day. Motion carried. Councilmember Kay Lasman suggested Tuesday as our first choice. Thursday was suggested as our second choice. Fundraising Brett Hildreth reported he will be meeting with KinderCare before the end of the week. He said the Bremer Bank Foundation might be a better approach under the civic engagement category. He will check on their guidelines. Sue Low said Brookdale Health is interested in partnering with something health related and may be interested in giving a donation. Brett Hildreth presented the committee with a certificate for a one night stay and brunch for two at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Minneapolis, estimated value is $200 (during peak season). This is for the silent auction. Dr. Duane Orn will contact Wells Fargo this week. Councilmember Dan Ryan will contact TCR and US Bank. Warren Olson presented the committee with a check for $200 from Warren Olson and a check for $200 from Christy’s Auto Service. It was suggested we have a fundraising display, with donation/pledge cards near the bar at the birthday party. Sue LaCrosse will check with the Special Events committee to see if this is possible. Events It was suggested that at every event someone should remind people this is a Centennial event. After reviewing the events, someone from the committee will be at all February events. We will review the future months at a later date. If someone from the committee cannot attend an event, we will contact someone from that event and request they take pictures. It was suggested we develop a form to be filled out after each event which would include how many people attended and an evaluation with measureable goals. It was suggested we keep a rolling tally on the website. 1 It was suggested we purchase a nice guest book, similar to what is used at weddings. We would like everyone to sign the guest book. It would then go to the next event and more guests would sign. It was suggested we have a traveling table display to be used at the various events. Minneapolis Northwest (formerly Visit Minneapolis North) Dave Looby reported that Minneapolis Northwest will do e-marketing ads and advertise the Centennial in other promotional materials. They are looking for things that are of particular interest for people outside the community. The committee suggested The Senior Lollapalooza, Golf Tournaments, Earth Day, a Surley event, and Brooklyn Center High School reunion. Sue LaCrosse said the Dudley Softball Tournament and Earle Brown Days are already promoted. Other The committee decided they do not want a reserved table at the Birthday Party because most are already committed to sitting with people from other organizations. Sue Low said it makes more sense for us to be spread out to reach more people to promote. Sharon Kephart said the proclamations to the house, senate and governor’s office would need to be done in the next couple of days. There was a motion by Dr. Duane Orn, seconded by Sue Low to direct Sharon Kephart to submit these after Sue LaCrosse has contacted Keith Lester for the proclamations. Motion carried. Sue Low asked when the City’s proclamation would be on the Council agenda. She suggested the committee show their support by attending the Council meeting. Sue LaCrosse will check and email the date to the committee. Sharon Kephart said the information was sent to Washington for the Congressional Record. Both the House and Senate will have someone speak on the floor. Joy Reinhart reported she is working to put together the information for Women’s Month. This will be done on the national, state and local levels in a larger format and they will circulate at schools and have a display at the library. Dr. Duane Orn reported the Amphitheater subcommittee met. Janis brought the preliminary drawings and Dr. Orn said they look nice. He said they have another meeting on January 19. Sue LaCrosse asked for comments on the Food Drive for CEAP flyer. Phil Cohen & Warren Olson suggested we add that cash is welcome. Meetings The committee decided they wanted to continue to meet every other week. Next meeting is Wednesday, January 19 at 5:00 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, Sue LaCrosse Program Supervisor 2
