Centennial Celebration
Meeting Notes
March 2, 2011
Keith Lester called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
Present: Keith Lester, Brent Haugen, Sharon Kephart, Margaret Sandberg, Wallace Bernards, Dr.
Duane Orn, Councilmember Kay Lasman, Brett Hildreth, City Manager Curt Bogeny, Phil
Cohen, Sue Low and Sue LaCrosse.
Amphitheater
Keith Lester distributed a case study document. He would like to get a small group together to
fundraise for this project. There was a motion by Dr. Duane Orn, seconded by Phil Cohen to
organize a committee to fundraise for the Amphitheater. Motion carried. The committee
members so far are Dr. Duane Orn, Phil Cohen, Sue Low, Keith Lester and Brett Hildreth. Keith
will ask Myrna Kragness if she would be interested in serving on this committee. Brent Haugen
sent Sue LaCrosse a link to the top 50 foundations in Minnesota. She will forward the link to
Keith.
Fundraiser Event
Keith Lester will do a presentation using Prezi a web based program similar to PowerPoint. It
will be running during the event. Dr. Duane Orn asked if the drawing of the Amphitheater could
be put into the Centennial Park picture using Photo Shop. Sue LaCrosse said she will ask if
Vickie Schleuning could do this for us. Brent Haugen said we will be in Lombard’s at the
Crowne Plaza and he will find out what the value is. Minneapolis Northwest will provide drink
tickets to donors only, not the committee.

Dr. Duane Orn would like to have a meeting one week from today at 5:00 p.m. Sue LaCrosse
will send out a notice.
Star
Dr. Duane Orn showed the committee the star that was named for Brooklyn Center Centennial.
The star and the certificate were framed. Sue Low will take them to see if she can scan them so
Sue LaCrosse can put them on the website.

Vintage Wedding Dress Show
Margaret Sandberg reported the wedding dress show will be free but is asking for a food shelf
donation. She may need to buy some artificial flowers. Most of the models will be carrying a
picture of the actual bride wearing the gown. Sue LaCrosse will make a flyer and email to
Margaret for her approval. Margaret Sandberg said she is short dresses from the 1990’s and
2000’s. If anyone knows of anyone that might like to have their dress in the show, contact
Margaret.
Marketing
Keith Lester said we need to get a marketing subcommittee together. He would like Dave Kiser,
Dave Looby, Brent Haugen, Sue Low, Teresa Schutz, and Jonathan Young invited. Sue
LaCrosse will set up the meeting.
Auction
Brent Haugen and Sharon Kephart are working on the auction. The site is located at
bc100auction.com. It will begin March 25 and end April 17. The solicitation letter and donation
form will be available on the site. Sue LaCrosse will provide a link to the auction from the
Centennial website.
Food Drive
Margaret Sandberg said she has seen where schools will pick a theme for the food drive, such as
peanut butter.
Other
Wallace Bernards attended the Historical Society meeting and explained the open house at
BCHS and invited them to any or all events. It was suggested we might want to have a float in
this year’s parade. Dr. Duane Orn said he can get a 1930 Model A Ford. Margaret Sandberg
will check to see if there is any possibility of using a float from the Holidazzle.
Next Meeting
The next meeting is Wednesday, March 16 at 5:00 p.m.
