HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012 08-22 AFM Amphitheater Fundraising Task Force Meeting Notes August 22, 2012 Dr. Duane Orn called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Present: Dr. Duane Orn, Phil Cohen, Keith Lester, Sharon Kephart, Earl Simons and Sue LaCrosse. Minutes: There was a motion by Sharon Kephart, seconded by Phil Cohen to approve the minutes of August 8, 2012. Motion carried. Financial Report: Sue LaCrosse reported there have been no changes to the budget. OLD BUSINESS Luther Update: Phil Cohen has been working on a packet. When it is ready, they will be going out to meet with Curt Johnson. Phil Cohen said the bandstand is almost classified as junk. He met with Jim Glasoe requesting a letter from the City stating when the showmobile is gone, it’s gone and there is no money to replace it. He said Relay for Life borrows the showmobile from Fridley. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Sharon Kephart that a packet be made to include an updated brochure, a letter from the City, photos and other materials. Motion carried. Included in the packet will be the brochure, letter from the City, tax statement letter from the finance director, newspaper article, photo of bandshell, three photos of veterans, and the City Council resolution. Evans Nordby: Phil Cohen sends an email to him on Thursday to see if he is available. Brookdale Health: Dr. Erickson and Dr. Duane Orn will meet on September 19 at 11:30 a.m. Walmart: Dr. Duane Orn said they had a meeting on August 10 at which they presented the manager with materials. This was the date the grant materials were due. The meeting went well and the manager told him he would love to donate. Mike Sims Meeting: Dr. Duane Orn said Sharon Kephart did a great job in cementing a meeting with Mike Sims. Earl Simons said they were very well received. Mike Sims gave them all the time they needed and seemed impressed with the conversation. He has six other sales people working on the Shingle Creek Crossing project. Update From Leonard Jacobson: Dr. Duane Orn said Myrna Kauth met with Leonard Jacobson. He is going to check to see if we can get a letter of commitment. NEW BUSINESS Grand Opening of Walmart: The grand opening of Walmart is scheduled for September 12. Legacy Grant: Sue LaCrosse said she will check the website in December. Phil Cohen said we should talk to our senator and representative about it. 1 Business Bags: Sue LaCrosse said the City and the BCBA are partnering to put together bags that will be going out to businesses. We have been invited to put in a flyer about the Amphitheater. On the back of the flyer will be the brick flyer. Photographer: Dr. Duane Orn will pursue this contact. Earl Simons would like a packet and will make a contact to the Target store manager. Dr. Duane Orn said we should send thank you letters to David Heber and Mike Sims. Phil Cohen distributed information on Charitable Contributions from the IRS – Department of treasury. This document describes in detail the things that are deductible. He received this from Jeff Carson. Meeting Schedule: September 12 & 26 October 10 & 24 November 7 & 21 Adjourn: There was a motion by Earl Simons, seconded by Sharon Kephart to adjourn the meeting.
