HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012 02-15 AFM Amphitheater Fundraising Committee Meeting Notes February 15, 2012 Dr. Duane Orn called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Present: Dr. Duane Orn, Sue Low, Earl Simons, Myrna Kauth, Phil Cohen and Sue LaCrosse. Minutes: There was a motion by Myrna Kauth, seconded by Phil Cohen to defer the approval of the February 1, 2012 minutes. Motion carried. Financial Report: Sue LaCrosse reported there is $129,413 in cash donations, pledges and in-kind. We have sold two more bricks. She said the Centennial Committee voted to have the $1,653.23 transferred from Bremer Bank to the City’s account dedicated to the building of the Amphitheater. OLD BUSINESS Luther Update: This item was deferred until the Council Report was approved. Thank You Letters: This item was deferred until the Council Report was approved. City Council Report: Sue LaCrosse complimented Dr. Duane Orn on the outstanding job he did with the Council presentation. The committee was pleased with the positive comments from the Council. There was a motion by Sharon Kephart, seconded by Phil Cohen to update the Council Report dated 2/13/12, making a note at the bottom of the page with the date it is updated pending City Manager approval. Motion carried. Metal Roof/Anchor Block Donations: Dr. Duane Orn said Janis Blumentals has been in contact with Leonard Jacobson who used to work for Firestone. Leonard will contact the Anoka Firestone office. A letter of intent will be coming from Janis Blumentals. Dr. Duane Orn said Robert Marvin is in the process of writing a letter of intent. Target Corporation: No report. Legacy Funds/Grants: Dr. Duane Orn and Phil Cohen reported they spoke with Senator Eaton and Representative Hilstrom about expanding the guidelines for the Legacy grants. Lang Nelson: Dr. Duane Orn reported for Jeff Delzer who emailed him. Jeff Delzer spoke with Gene Nelson on February 6, in which he requested a monetary or in-kind donation. He will follow up with him at a later date. Jeff Delzer gave Dr. Duane Orn a contact for Cargill. Dr. Duane Orn will ask Sue Low to follow up with the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation. Lions Club: No brick paver orders were received from Lions Club members. 1 Evans-Nordby: Phil Cohen said this is pending the Council resolution. Brookdale Health: Phil Cohen said this is pending the Council resolution. Medtronic Foundation: No report. BCHS Anniversary: Myrna Kauth will contact George Larson. Minnesota Orchestra: Sue Low has made a contact. Press Release: Phil Cohen said he presumes the Council Report information will be in the paper. Myrna Kauth will contact Jonathan Young. Current Donors: Phil Cohen and Dr. Duane Orn would like to give a copy of the Council Report to the current donors. Senior Luncheon: Earl Simons said we should receive some brick orders from this group. NEW BUSINESS Website: Dr. Duane Orn said he received an email from Brett Hildreth suggesting we revisit taking down the Centennial website. Sue LaCrosse said Vickie Schleuning had sent out a response stating that the historical information was already copied into the City website. However, since the Centennial website is still up, it is not live on the City’s website. Sue LaCrosse said we can use the City website to promote donations for the Amphitheater and brick pavers. There was a motion by Myrna Kauth, seconded by Sharon Kephart to defer discussion about the website to the next meeting after the City Council has appointed a committee and when Brett Hildreth could attend. Motion carried. Committee: The committee reviewed a list of possible Amphitheater Task Force parameters from the 2/13/12 City Council discussion. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Myrna Kauth to approve a list of points to be considered by the City Council for the Amphitheater Task Force. Motion carried. Sue LaCrosse will update the list and email to the committee. The committee was asked to send any corrections via email. Sue LaCrosse will send it to Jim Glasoe to put in the form of a resolution. Sharon Kephart reported she has received approval to put brick paver flyers at the Miracle Center in Brooklyn Center and Northwest Community Television. Sharon Kephart met with Donald Jackson. He has offered to donate a portion of the proceeds from his Brookdale poster sales to the Amphitheater. She said he would be interested in meeting with Dr. Duane Orn about some ideas he has. Next Meeting: The next meeting is Wednesday, March 7 at 5:00 p.m. Adjourn: There was a motion by Myrna Kauth, seconded by Sue Low to adjourn the meeting.
