HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012 03-07 AFM Amphitheater Fundraising Committee Meeting Notes March 7, 2012 Dr. Duane Orn called the meeting to order at 5:07 p.m. Present: Dr. Duane Orn, Earl Simons, Sharon Kephart, Myrna Kauth, Phil Cohen and Sue LaCrosse. Minutes: There was a motion by Myrna Kauth, seconded by Sharon Kephart to approve the minutes of February 1, 2012 minutes. Motion carried. There was a motion by Myrna Kauth, seconded by Sharon Kephart to approve the minutes of February 15, 2012 minutes. Motion carried. Financial Report: Sue LaCrosse reported there is $130,486 in cash donations, pledges and in-kind. We have sold a total of 25 bricks. She said the $1,653.23 has not been transferred from Bremer Bank to the City’s account for the Amphitheater yet. The finance director is waiting for a new statement showing all checks have cleared. There was a motion by Earl Simons, seconded by Phil Cohen to approve the financial report. Motion carried. SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS Sharon Kephart reported on the meeting with Mr. Jackson. She said he is offering as a donation a percentage of the sale of the posters. The other option he proposed is if we invest in the promotion of the posters, he would donate a larger percentage. Sharon Kephart recommended we accept the smaller percentage as a donation. She said since we do not have an operating budget, we should stay true to using the money for the Amphitheater. There was a motion by Myrna Kauth, seconded by Sharon Kephart to acknowledge we met with him, he was respected for his offer and time and that the information is being evaluated and compiled for committee and City approval. Motion carried. Dr. Duane Orn met someone who is interested in being an anonymous donor. This same person may be interested in being a photographer for the amphitheater events. OLD BUSINESS Luther Update: Phil Cohen talked to Curt Johnson who is preparing information for Linda McGinty. Chris Johnson is preparing to send a letter to the Mayor on the City staff participation at the food packing drive. Thank You Letters: Phil Cohen sent an email to Mike Simms acknowledging the article in the Star Tribune and asking him for the names and addresses of the Shingle Creek Crossing donors. Metal Roof/Anchor Block Donations: Dr. Duane Orn will contact Janis Blumenthal regarding an update on the metal roof donation. Cement Block: Dr. Duane Orn will follow up with this. Target Corporation: No report. 1 Lang Nelson: Dr. Duane Orn said Jeff Delzer is working on this. Evans-Nordby: Phil Cohen will set up a meeting. Brookdale Health: Phil Cohen will set up a meeting. Medtronic Foundation: Earl Simons will set up a meeting. BCHS Anniversary: Myrna Kauth has a list of foundation supporters. Myrna Kauth will draft a letter that could be sent out to them. Sue Low will be asked for ideas on how we might make our mailing stand out. Dr. Duane Orn and Myrna Kauth would donate the cost of the mailing. Website: Sue LaCrosse reported the cost for the maintenance on the Centennial website for another year is $750. She said Vickie Schleuning has copied the historical information to the City website. Sue LaCrosse will add the photos. This would go live after the Centennial website goes down. Sue LaCrosse said she added a page highlighting the Amphitheater and donation information. This is already live. There was a motion by Sharon Kephart, seconded by Myrna Kauth to not renew the fee for annual maintenance for the Centennial website and to use the City website for the historical information, photos, and Amphitheater fundraising. Motion carried. Minnesota Orchestra: No report. NEW BUSINESS Phil Cohen suggested grouping all of the paver agenda items together. Letters: The committee discussed the proposed letter to donors. Along with the letters, a copy of the Council Report would be sent. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Sharon Kephart to approve in principal the donor letter and Council Report. Motion carried. Phil Cohen drafted a letter from the Mayor that could be included in the report. This is only a draft and he will meet with the Mayor. Sue LaCrosse will ask Jeannine Pfann to edit the letters. She will bring copies of the revised letters and the Council report to the next meeting. Earl Simons suggested we have a photo taken of someone purchasing a brick. Comcast Foundation: Dr. Duane Orn has made a new contact. USB Charitable Giving: Dr. Duane Orn has made a new contact. Next Meeting: The next meeting is Wednesday, March 21 at 5:00 p.m. Adjourn: There was a motion by Myrna Kauth, seconded by Earl Simons to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned.
