The Shaklee Corporation of Heyward , California is a member firm
of Direct Selling Associetion---distributing a fall line of organic

selling companies presently in operation locally .
• As an Assistant Supervisor, it is necessary to stock products for
pic.& up by--delivery--or mail to distributors . There are no direct
sales, in this position, to the general public. The frequency of
this activity wyould not be more than one or two c=rs , at the most ,
daily.

Mr. Blair Tremere
Director of Planning and Inspection

Brooklyn Center, MN 55430
Subject: Amusement Center Proposed for Humboldt Square
Dear Mr. Tremere:
As we discussed by telephone yesterday, this letter provides the
operational details of the Amusement Center I'm proposing for
Humboldt Square.
t: The space for which I am negotiating consists of 1400 square feet,
a 20' front by 70' deep area, which would make a relatively small
operation. Therefore it would be neighborhood or locally
oriented rather than regional in scope.
The space will be completely and very tastefully decorated to
include suspended lighting and carpeting throughout with
coordinated walls and ceiling.
The recreational facilities will consist of all coin operated
machines' including the newer types of games such as Air Hockey ,
y s Foosball, Duck Hunt, and Pong as well as the standards such as
pocket billiards, bumper pool, and selective pinballs. Allowing
for proper arrangment the above mentioned space should provide
room for 1,9-21 pieces of equipment plus a soft drink can vendor.
A full-time manager or his assistant help would be present at all
times. All emplyees would be very closely selected. The manager
would ideally be from Brooklyn Center and intellectually capable
of demanding 100% compliance to house rules. Proposed hours of
operation are:
Monday thru Thursday. . . . . . . . . . .2:00 P.M. - 11:00 P.M.
Friday. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .2:00 P.M. - 12:30 A.M.
Saturday. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .10:00 A.M. - 12:30 A.M.
Sunday. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .1,2:00 NOON - 11:00 P.M.
A summer schedule could be slightly longer by opening at noon
daily.
 V
With regard to customer age distribution, past experience has
shown that 80% will be under 18 years old. The remaining 20% is
made up of families or father and sons who come in on Saturday
and Sunday afternoonsg and of the over 18 year old young adults
who are more apparent during later evening hours. This means
very few automobiles which should help ease any congestion or
parking problems in the area. There would be a bicycle rack at
the location.
i
(2)
To crest a competitive spirit I propose to conduct organized
tournament play in Foosball, Air Hockey and pocket billiards.
This could be organized for both individual and team competition,
with the winners going on to higher levels of competition at
local, regional and national levels. Trophy cups or Awards would
be given to the tournament winners.
Enclosed is my application for a Special Use Permit and a check
for $25.00 to cover administrative costs. I very much appreciate
your guidance in this matter, and if there are further questions
please call me at 91+1-8107.
Sincerely,
Ronald E. Clark

4. Loading aad shippincl facilities The ordinance requires
a minimum of 3 berths- f:or a facility of tb:is size; the
berths must he 1.2 feet wide and 50 feet ip length for
the first, and 25 feet fcr the others . The ordinance also
provides that each beet shall. be located Ito provide con-
venient access to a public street in a ma4 ner which will
least interfere traffic. Also, the 0!rea shall be
• used only -for Icading ;And shipping and shall be apart
from areas necessary for required c)ff s.tre,et parking.
The submitted plans ca 11 ,r,., a loading area on the west
side of the buildiig, utiliZing the exterior door to an
internal sem7ice at.d emergency corridor. Our concern has
been with the pazallel loading design. and the, need to
delineate and screen the area from the dr3 ve lane. This
is a basic consideration based upon the need to prevent
trucks from backing up to the door or otho rwise blocking
the driving area,
The project cons iss is lc:; a nimiber of tenant areas on the
other side of the cent - which do not have direct access
to the designated loa6` Egg area; and, thus '',it might be
expected trucks -would load from the front ,entrances,
parking in the driving areas.
The applic;iht tiiaintair_%:, that the shops on !the east side
of the center :,;ill be sr.nll merchandise retailers, with
deliveries to be made in vehicles other than large trucks
and that all major del. veries will be permitted only
through the designated loading corridor.
