CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE
COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND STATE OF MINNESOTA
REGULAR SESSION
FEBUARY 19, 2013
COUNCIL COMMISSION ROOM
CALL TO ORDER
The Brooklyn Center Housing Commission was called to order by Chairperson Thorbus at 7:08
p.m.
ROLL CALL
Commissioners Kathie Amdahl and Peggy Lynn were present. Also present were Council Liaison
Lin Myszkowski and Staff Liaison Jesse Anderson.
Chairperson Judy Thorbus was absent and excused. Ephraim Olani and David Johnson were absent
and unexcused.
APPROVAL OFAGENDA —NO QUORUM
There was a motion by Commissioner and seconded by Commissioner to approve the agenda
as submitted. The motion passed.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES—NO QUORUM
There was a motion by Commissioner and seconded by Commissioner to approve the minutes
of the Housing Commission meeting. The motion passed.
VICE CHAIRPERSONS REPORT
In the absence of the Chair, no report was submitted.
COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT
Councilmember Lin Myszkowski presented information regarding magnesium. Information was
presented from university of Minnesota and she requested to do a study on two cities. City staff has
been in contact with Minnesota Public health and has closed down a pump with high level of
manganese.
Reviewed community services report.
MARANATHA CARE GUEST SPEAKER
Dustin Sair from Presbyterian homes resen ted information regarding the Maranatha Care Facility in
the city of Brooklyn Center.
OTHER BUSINESS
Commissioner Amdahl discussed a scheduling conflict for the May Housing Commission. It was
discussed that the Commissioners will review their calendars to discuss the May 21St meeting

schedule. Also,discussed promoting codes to new owners and help with understanding of the code.
Discussed association boards and issues the townhouses are having as a result of the foreclosures
such as collecting dues prior to the sheriff sale.
Commissioner Lynn addressed concerns about the ordinance stating that a house being vacant for
one year could be demolished,particularly relating to attached town homes.
