OTHER BUSINESS
Commissioner Amdahl reported that the Housing Commission had delivered 187 new neighbor
welcome bags year-to-date. 104 of these deliveries included contact with the new resident and only
three properties were found to be vacant at the time of delivery. Commissioner Lynn stated that
some new residents were leery of the Commission's bag delivery as they expected that the
Commissioners were door-to-door salespeople.
Chairperson Thorbus asked about the next bag delivery date and stated that there is only one more
scheduled delivery date. Commissioner Amdahl stated that the sun is setting sooner now so possible
the evening delivery time should be reconsidered.
Commissioner Lynn asked if any of the delivery spots were located in the Lions Park area and
offered to deliver those bags herself during the week. Chairperson Thorbus responded that the
Housing Commissioners should not deliver bags alone.
Commissioner Amdahl suggested that a Saturday morning delivery date might work well. She
mentioned that the Commission had done Saturday deliveries in the past. Commissioner Amdahl
suggested October 5th from 10-Noon as a Saturday delivery date. Commissioner Johnson agreed.
Commissioner Lynn and Chairperson Thorbus said they were unable to attend.
Commissioner Amdahl suggested that Wednesday, September 25th at 5:45 PM-7PM would be a
second delivery date. Commissioners Amdahl, Houston, and Chairperson Thorbus will attend.
Commissioner Johnson stated he was unable to attend that date. Chairperson Thorbus asked if
Councilmembers Kleven and Myszkowski might be able to help deliver bags as well.
Commissioner Johnson asked about the move-in dates of the houses that have/will receive new
neighbor bags this year. Commissioner Amdahl reported that the move-in dates were between May
and August of 2013. Commissioner Olani asked for clarification about the time period.
Commissioner Amdahl stated that 360 new homeowners have moved to Brooklyn Center in that time
period.
Commissioner Lynn asked about any other upcoming events for Council and Commission members.
Chairperson Thorbus reported that there are no upcoming events that she is aware of. Chairperson
Thorbus stated Council Liaison Myszkowski offered in the past to schedule a tour of CEAP and the
Northwest Family Service Center for the Housing Commission members. Chairperson Thorbus
stated that she would ask Council Liaison Myszkowski about this possibility for the future.
