MINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE HOUSING COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE
COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND STATE OF MINNESOTA
REGULAR SESSION
October 15, 2013
COUNCIL COMMISSION ROOM
CALL TO ORDER
The Brooklyn Center Housing Commission was called to order by Chairperson Thorbus at 7:05 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Chairperson Judy Thorbus, Kathie Amdahl, Ephraim Olani, David Johnson, Peggy Lynn, Leroy
Houston. Also present were Council Liaison Lin Myszkowski and Staff Liaison Jesse Anderson.
APPROVAL OFAGENDA
There was a motion by Commissioner Amdahl and seconded by Commissioner Johnson to
approve the agenda as submitted. The motion passed.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES—SEPTEMBER 17, 2 013
There was a motion by Commissioner Amdahl and seconded by Commissioner Johnson to
approve the minutes of the Housing Commission meeting on September 17,2013. The motion
passed.
COUNCIL LIAISONREPORT
Councilmember Lin Myszkowski reported a new treatment plant will be built. This is the result the
manganese study and will improve the water quality. She added the City Council voted to allow
Gatlin Development to demolish the food court at the Brookdale mall site.
Commissioner Johnson asked what their plan was before they decided to demolish it.
Councilmember Myszkowski said there would have been a drive isle between sears and food court
building and Gatlin has been contacted by retailers, however, the retailers preferred their own
building design. She explained the City Council did see a conceptual plan which included a loading
area on the inside and business fronts would be on the outside.
Councilmember Myszkowski stated the City Council is working on a new mission statement and are
at the beginning of discussions.
CHAIRPERSONS REPORT
Chairperson Thorbus had no new updates to report.
OTHER BUSINESS
Commissioner Amdahl stated that Councilmember Lawrence-Anderson and Commissioner Houston
completed bag delivery and delivered 15 bags. They have about 56 left to deliver and are planning to

go out on 19 and 26th of October. They plan to meet at city hall and leave by 10 a.m.
Chairperson Thorbus asked what neighborhoods are left. Commissioner Amdahl stated East Palmer,
Evergreen, Firehouse, Riverwood, and Grandview are done. Chairperson Thorbus thanked
Commissioner Amdahl for all her work on the New Neighbor Welcome Program.
Chairperson Thorbus suggested that rather than a meeting in November they could do a tour of the
new CEAP building. Councilmember Myszkowski said she will check what nights are available.
Commissioner Olani stated he has already toured the CEAP building.
Jesse Anderson reported that there is an NSP open house on October 29 at 5610 Humboldt Avenue
N.
Commissioner Johnson asked if the lot at the corner of Brooklyn Blvd and Bass Lake Road can be
commercial? Jesse Anderson reported he would check into the property.
ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Commissioner Amdahl and seconded by Commissioner Lynn to
adjourn the meeting. The motion passed. The Brooklyn Center Housing Commission adjourned
at 8:00 p.m.
