HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012 05-15 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes May 15, 2012 PRESENT Cathy Ballot, Councilmember Lin Myszkowski, Mike Meyer, Todd Cannon, Myrna Kauth, Phil Cohen and Sue LaCrosse. Karen Youngberg called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES There was a motion by Mike Meyer, seconded by Councilmember Lin Myszkowski to approve the minutes of April 17, 2012. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT Cathy Ballot reported the balance in our checking account is $15,300.43. We received a deposit of $1,125, which will bring the balance to $16,425.43. There was a motion by Myrna Kauth, seconded by Mike Meyer to accept the treasurer’s report. Motion carried. COMMITTEE REPORTS Budget/Finance: Sue LaCrosse said the monthly budget statement shows that we are ahead of last year in revenues for the Craft & Business Expo. We received $5,000 from Medtronic and $550 from Rotary. Mike Meyer reported the number of portable restrooms will decrease for the parade by three bringing the cost down to $694 plus tax. Sue LaCrosse said the sinks for the Craft & Business Expo will cost more than originally stated. Craft & Business Expo: No report. Kids’ Craft Area: No report. Family Fun & Games: Cathy Ballot said everything is fine. Golf Tournament: Mike Meyer said it is posted at the golf course and they are looking at food options. Honor Our Veterans: Myrna Kauth reported that Lin & John will lead the singing of the military songs and Keith Lester will sing the patriotic songs. Cross of Glory Boy Scouts will lead the pledge. She said she has had a problem in getting WWII Veterans. Sue LaCrosse will put information on the website inviting WWII Veterans to the event. The format will be the same as last year. Myrna Kauth will coordinate with Midnight Breeze. Kids’ Fishing Contest: No report. Music/Fireworks: Sue LaCrosse said we are set for a $5,000 show. Our projected carryover to next year is $2,000 less than last year. She suggested the amount for fireworks not be increased. Phil Cohen said this is a signature event and we should reconsider. Discussion of the fireworks was tabled to the next meeting. 1 Parade: Units are still coming in. Todd Cannon said Dale Greenwald will be the Grand Marshal. Mike Meyer reported the bands include Champlin Park, Richfield, Henry Sibley, Park Center, Mankato and Waconia. Mike Meyer will check with Brooklyn Center High School for their drumline. Petting Zoo: All set. Publicity: Sue LaCrosse said she will meet with the Sun Post on Wednesday. There was a motion by Mike Meyer, seconded by Councilmember Lin Myszkowski to amend the front page of the Sun Post supplement to include three photos – parade, fireworks and family fun & games. Motion carried. Cathy Ballot and Mike Meyer will do the Channel 12 interview. We will request that signs be put up at Centerbrook, the Community Center, Luther Auto, Brooklyn Center High School and the fire station on Brooklyn Blvd. Mike Meyer will coordinate the installation. Councilmember Lin Myszkowski said she would be willing to help. OLD BUSINESS: None. NEW BUSINESS: Sue LaCrosse reported she received an email from Joe Kane - Get Ready! Education Liaison th Minnesota Office of Higher Education. He is looking for volunteer opportunities for 7 grade students from Brooklyn Center High School. The committee asked Sue LaCrosse to ask him how much time the students need to volunteer, how many students, would there be an adult with them, and what is our liability. Councilmember Lin Myszkowski said she doesn’t have a specific job at Earle Brown Days. Sue LaCrosse said she thought they could use the help at the Craft & Business Expo and Family Fun & Games. NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 4:30 p.m., Room 221 at Community Center. ADJOURN: There was a motion by Myrna Kauth, seconded by Councilmember Lin Myszkowski to adjourn the meeting.
