HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013 02-19 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes February 19, 2013 PRESENT Joy Reinhart, Myrna Kauth, Cathy Ballot, Karen Youngberg, Phil Marbut, Judy Marbut, Councilmember Carol Kleven, Lin Myszkowski, and Sue LaCrosse. Joy Reinhart called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Joy Reinhart requested a clarification of the minutes to reflect a Councilmember liaison change from Lin Myszkowski to Carol Kleven. She wanted it clarified to say that Mike Meyer met with Sue Arneson to discuss the parade. There was a motion by Karen Youngberg, seconded by Cathy Ballot to amend the bill pay approval from last month to this month. Motion carried. Under new business from the January minutes Joy Reinhart requested that Tom Shinnick reported on the Lions Club spaghetti dinner be stricken. There was a motion by Cathy Ballot, seconded by Karen Youngberg to approve the minutes of January 15, 2013 with the clarification and amendments. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT Cathy Ballot reported a checkbook balance of $8,429.26. She said we have a check from Rotary for $550. Karen Youngberg said we will receive $2,000 from Minneapolis Northwest. Myrna Kauth said the American Legion will donate towards the fireworks. Councilmember Carol Kleven said the Women’s Club budget is already set for this year and therefore the club cannot donate to Earle Brown Days. She will contact them early for next year. There was a motion by Karen Youngberg, seconded by Myrna Kauth to appoint Lin Myszkowski as a new member of the board of directors. Motion carried. COMMITTEE REPORTS Budget/Finance: Sue LaCrosse reported that donations are coming in pretty good. Craft & Business Expo: The exhibitor information has been sent out. Kids’ Craft Area: No report. Dunkin’s Jamboree: No report. Family Fun & Games: Councilmember Carol Kleven said her grandchildren got lots of prizes last year. She suggested ribbons instead of prizes. Fire Truck: This is all set. Golf Tournament: No report. Honor Our Veterans: Myrna Kauth said she is working on getting some military equipment. Sue LaCrosse said we can use the Capri Big Band’s sound system. If we have the Honor Our Veterans program at 7:30, the band would play from 8-10 p.m. 1 Kids’ Fishing Contest: Cathy Ballot said the police chief will have staff assist. Music/Fireworks: No report. Parade: Phil & Judy Marbut reported that they sent out notices to the high school bands. Petting Zoo: No report. Publicity: Sue LaCrosse said that the person at the Star Tribune said the zip codes we requested came to 47,695. So depending on the size of the insert, the approximate cost would either be $1,526 or $1,717. This is an approximate cost because paper subscriptions may change. This cost is based on the smaller size. If we wanted the 8.5” x 11” size, the cost would be $2,193. There was a motion by Myrna Kauth, seconded by Karen Youngberg to approve the smaller size insert. Motion carried. There was a motion by Cathy Ballot, seconded by Myrna Kauth to have the flyer designed with the schedule of events on one side and the Craft & Business Expo, parade, and the band concert/fireworks/honor our veterans on the other side. Motion carried. Puppet Show: No report. OLD BUSINESS Karen Youngberg said she has a proposal to partner with the BCBA. She would like to request that they consider the following:  A donation of either dollars or merchandise  Provide volunteers  Place the EBD information on their website or a link  Encourage their members to participate in events There was a motion by Myrna Kauth, seconded by Cathy Ballot to approve the proposal to partner with the BCBA. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS: Carol Kleven said the lines at the games were too long. She suggested the ages be divided more. Sue LaCrosse suggested we ask Cathy Ballot to take these comments back to Rotary for their input. There was a motion by Karen Youngberg, seconded by Myrna Kauth to send this discussion back to the Rotary Club. Motion carried. Myrna Kauth will contact Megan Fraboni of Caribou Coffee to request a donation. NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 4:30 p.m., Room 221 at Community Center. ADJOURN: The meeting adjourned.
