HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013 07-16 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes July 16, 2013 PRESENT Joy Reinhart, Mayor Tim Willson, Cathy Ballot, Councilmember Carol Kleven, Myrna Kauth, Lin Myszkowski and Sue LaCrosse. Joy Reinhart called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. Mayor Tim Willson thanked the committee for their hard work on Earle Brown Days. He said he received a lot of positive comments about the events. APPROVAL OF MINUTES There was a motion by Cathy Ballot, seconded by Lin Myszkowski to approve the minutes of June 19, 2013. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT Cathy Ballot reported a checkbook balance of $11,845.11. COMMITTEE REPORTS Budget/Finance: The updated spreadsheet was reviewed. Cathy Ballot said she believed the ending balance is close to what she will have in the checkbook. Craft & Business Expo: Joy Reinhart reported there were four vendors that did not show. They had four or five more walk in. She said Baylon was wonderful. The ground was wet. Because space 2 was a no show, #1 was moved and she liked her new spot better. For the future, she recommends that maintenance work with the food vendors as they enter the park. Grannies Donuts quoted us $4 for coffee & donuts, but charged us $4.50. Sue LaCrosse suggested talking to the Lions next year about offering a hot dog and beverage. We would reimburse them instead of the coffee and donuts. Joy Reinhart said someone was allergic to garlic and needed to know what was in the food at the Lions booth. She suggests the Lions make a copy of the ingredients and post it. She said there was a steady flow of people. Kids’ Craft Area: Sue LaCrosse said we ran out of projects before the time was up. Dunkin’s Jamboree: Sue LaCrosse said there were fewer people than she thought would come, but still a nice crowd. She thanked Cathy Ballot and Councilmember Carol Kleven for helping. Face Painting: There was a good turnout. Family Fun & Games: Cathy Ballot reported everyone got a gift. There was a very diverse crowd. stndrd Next year, they may give out the same prize to 1, 2 & 3 places. Sue LaCrosse said one of the reasons for taking names is to discourage people from getting more than one door prize ticket. She suggested marking hands before giving them a ticket instead. Fire Truck: The truck was set up in the community center parking lot instead of city hall’s lot. Joy Reinhart suggested if they come back next year and put up the ladder, maybe they could put a sign on the top of it promoting the festival. Sue LaCrosse suggested maybe they could give kids turns at 1 spraying the water hose. Myrna Kauth suggested inviting them to bring recruiting materials. Golf Tournament: Cathy Ballot said they had more people than last year. She said there was a very good meal. It was made on the grill. Honor Our Veterans: Myrna Kauth reported it went well. She said Jim Brickman was pleased with the amount of people visiting the tents and vehicles. She ran out of programs. Kids’ Fishing Contest: Sue LaCrosse said only four fish were caught. They gave out a rod & reel to those four and then did door prize drawings for the rest of the prizes. Music/Fireworks: It was suggested we have someone introduce the band. There were more people in attendance for the music this year. Parade: Everyone enjoyed the parade. Some of the drivers were going way too fast. The committee did not like the band trailers in the parade. It was confusing. Some units went wherever they wanted. Petting Zoo: It was very successful. They were happy with the number of people who rode the ponies. Cathy Ballot will book them for next year. Publicity: Sue LaCrosse said the person she worked with at the Star Tribune doesn’t know why everyone did not get the flyer. Katy at the Sun Post did a nice article. Joy Reinhart said she lists it on Eventful. She said for an event of focus on Eventful, the cost is $50 and it is emailed to 74,000 homes. Puppet Show: Sue LaCrosse said there was a nice turnout. Councilmember Carol Kleven said she could not hear them. Recycling: Councilmember Carol Kleven said Jill Dalton did a good job. Joy Reinhart said the locations were good. OLD BUSINESS None. NEW BUSINESS: Bill Pay: City of Brooklyn Center $153.77 Fishing Contest Prizes City of Brooklyn Center 276.46 Postage Biff’s 1,083.49 Portable restrooms & sinks Star Tribune 1,668.78 Ad There was a motion by Myrna Kauth, seconded by Councilmember Carol Kleven to approve the payment of these bills.
