HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013 05-21 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes May 21, 2013 PRESENT Joy Reinhart, Cathy Ballot, Karen Youngberg, Phil Marbut, Judy Marbut, Mike Meyer, Councilmember Carol Kleven, Lin Myszkowski, Myrna Kauth, Tom Shinnick, Jill Dalton and Sue LaCrosse. Joy Reinhart called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Karen Youngberg said she was not at the April 16 meeting. There was a motion by Cathy Ballot, seconded by Myrna Kauth to approve the minutes of April 16, 2013 with the correction. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT Cathy Ballot reported a checkbook balance of $14,534.57. There is one outstanding check for $1,250. Phil Marbut reported the Lions Club will donate an additional $1,000. Cathy Ballot presented a check from the Rotary Club for $1,500 to go towards the fireworks. Myrna Kauth presented a check for $500 to go towards the fireworks. Joy Reinhart expressed thank you to the Rotary Club, Myrna Kauth and the Lions Club for their donations. COMMITTEE REPORTS Budget/Finance: Sue LaCrosse distributed the latest budget sheet. She said Medtronic Foundation indicated they could donate $1,000. She said this is probably the last year. She said with the additional donations, there will be an Earle Brown Days Festival next year. Craft & Business Expo: Joy Reinhart reported we are down a couple vendors. We should be able to comfortably fill the one area. Kids’ Craft Area: Sue LaCrosse said we should maybe look at a new spot for this activity to force people to go into the vendor area. Dunkin’s Jamboree: Sue LaCrosse reported that Walmart is going to donate the hot dogs, chips, buns, water, ketchup and mustard. They are also going to sponsor Park Center band in the parade. Face Painting: Sue LaCrosse said we should maybe look at a new spot for this activity to force people to go into the vendor area. However, we wouldn’t want the line to interfere with the vendors. Family Fun & Games: Cathy Ballot said she is still working on door prizes. Community Center swim passes and golf passes were suggested. Fire Truck: All Set. Golf Tournament: No report. Honor Our Veterans: Myrna Kauth reported the Crystal Military Museum will bring out an ambulance and a jeep and set up a tent. John Myszkowski will sing the songs. The boy scouts will lead the Pledge of Allegiance and the Palmer Lake VFW will provide the color guard. 1 Kids’ Fishing Contest: No report. Music/Fireworks: All set. Parade: Phil Marbut reported they have the banners they need and Fast Signs in making one for Walmart for no charge. He asked the committee to review his band letter. Petting Zoo: Cathy Ballot reported they are open in the afternoon this year. She said they could stay longer and can provide pony rides for $4.00/ride. The petting zoo cost for an additional hour is $200 and or $100 for a half hour. There was a motion by Cathy Ballot, seconded by Myrna Kauth to add a half hour at a cost of $100. Motion carried. There was a motion by Cathy Ballot, seconded by Karen Youngberg to allow them to bring a pony. Motion carried. Publicity: Sue LaCrosse said our Star Tribune ad is complete and we will get about 100 extra copies. She asked committee members to take some flyers and ask various businesses if they could be posted. Mike Meyer will help with EBD signs. The following locations were suggested for the signs: Luther Chevrolet, Community Center, West Fire Station, BCHS and the golf course. Puppet Show: No report. Recycling: Jill Dalton said she hasn’t heard about the compost carts. There will be five stations, with one being behind the food vendors. She does not have volunteers pinned down yet. OLD BUSINESS None. NEW BUSINESS: There was a motion by Myrna Kauth, seconded by Karen Youngberg to raise the expense amount from $100 to $125 for flags for the Honor Our Veterans program. Motion carried. Bill Payment: 4 x $300 = $2,100 Band Stipends Parade $950 3 Judges Parade $214.55 Allegra Print & Imaging Printing of envelopes There was a motion by Myrna Kauth, seconded by Councilmember Carol Kleven to pay the bills as described.
