BROOKLYN CENTER YEAR 2000 CELEBRATION

MEETING MINUTES
Phil Cohen called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.
ATTENDANCE:
Baylon F. Loosbrock, Rotary; Bob Becker, Lions Club; Pastor Bruce Hobbs,
Community Thanksgiving Celebration; Kay Lasman, Councilmember; Tony Kuefler, Time
Capsule; Lee Skavanger, Osseo Community Education; Mayor Myrna Kragness; Dorothy
Jacobson, BC Women’s Club; Ed Nelson, Councilmember; Sue LaCrosse, Earle Brown Days;
Phil Cohen, Chairman.
FINANCIAL REPORT
Phil Cohen reported the checkbook balance as of $2,299.00 as of January 9. There was also a
$200 check donated by the Women’s Club. There was a motion by Pastor Hobbs, seconded by
Lee Skavanger to accept the $2,000 from the City of Brooklyn Center as money in advance for
registrations that will be taken for the birthday party. Motion carried. There was a motion by
Mayor Kragness, seconded by Councilmember Nelson to approve payment of $14.99 to Tony
Kuefler for reimbursement. Motion carried.
EVENTS UPDATE
Winter Family Fun Day
– Phil Cohen will call Gene Hageman about running the event.

90 Birthday Party
– Councilmember Lasman wrote a contract for the caterer. The cost is $2.00 more per person
because of adding the two choices for meat. The total price is $11.75 per person plus tax and
gratuity. It is estimated we will need to add about 22%. She will purchase 2 ½ cans of pop per
person. Phil Cohen said that Cub would do the cake again. The entertainment will consist of a
folk group and a diversity program. Erica Kragness from BCHS will be the female vocalist for
the musical band. The women’s club will cut the cake and serve as hostess. Councilmember
Lasman asked if there would be registrations at the door. Phil Cohen suggested she order 10%
over.
Time Capsule
– Tony Kuefler said he sent out a letter inviting participation to 33 organizations. He said he has
a meeting with the city manager on Wednesday to discuss the size and logistics of the time
capsule. There are some items from the last time capsule that are suitable to go back in.
History Book
- The history book has been proofed and will be at the printer by the end of the month.
Millennium Book Update
– Lee Skavanger said some of the schools have already turned them in. The deadline was
Friday.
Memorabilia/Souvenirs
– No report.
Publicity
– Sue LaCrosse said she would send flyers to schools. Tony Kuefler said Lauri Winters has
already publicized the birthday party and the time capsule. He will ask her to do again.
