Amphitheater Fundraising Task Force
Meeting Notes
March 5, 2014
Dr. Duane Orn called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.
Present: Dr. Duane Orn, Earl Simons, Myrna Kauth, Sue Low, Sharon Kephart and Sue LaCrosse.
Minutes:
There was a motion by Myrna Kauth, seconded by Sharon Kephart to approve the minutes
of February 5, 2014. Motion carried.
Financial Report:
The financial report states $360,931 in donations, brick sales and in-kind.
There was a motion by Sue Low, seconded by Sharon Kephart to approve the financial report.
Motion carried.
Alternative Sites:
The committee was asked to look at alternative sites for the Amphitheater. Myrna
Kauth suggested looking at the City Hall parking lot. She also suggested additional soil samples in other
areas of the park. Earl Simons said Grandview would be a nice location because of the hill, but it doesn’t
have parking. He said no matter where you put it, no place compares with Centennial Park.
There was a motion by Earl Simons, seconded by Myrna Kauth to recommend the facility be built in the
vicinity of City Hall as close to the original site as possible. Motion carried. The Centennial Park site
lends itself to adjacent indoor restrooms and backup rooms. It is a relaxing environment.
Brooklyn Center High School was suggested. Sue LaCrosse said the area is not large enough.
Sue LaCrosse said we were asked to consider Opportunity Site and Shingle Creek Crossing. Myrna
Kauth said Opportunity Site will take too long to be developed. The Shingle Creek Crossing site is too
close to the freeway and is not as friendly of a site. Sharon Kephart said it would not be a civic presence.
There was a motion by Myrna Kauth, seconded by Sue Low to recommend additional soil borings in
Centennial Park areas as necessary and as soon as possible. Motion carried.
Dr. Duane Orn said if you have to buy land, build bathrooms and other amenities, it would potentially
cost more money than any savings.
Earl Simons said we have looked at appropriate settings for it and this is the best location.
Gene Nelson:
Dr. Duane Orn set up a meeting with him for next week.
Other:
Dr. Duane Orn asked if we need to make a report to the City Council. Sue LaCrosse said she will
check.
Adjourn:
There was a motion by Sue Low, seconded by Myrna Kauth to adjourn the meeting. The
meeting was adjourned.
Next meeting:
Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 3:00 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Sue LaCrosse, Program Supervisor
