Meeting Minutes
February 9, 1993
PRESENT: Nerburn, Roen, Graham, Pollock, Bergeland, Kragness, Risley, and
LaCrosse.
Meeting was called to order at 7:45 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of October 13, 1992 were approved.
FOOD VENDORS: LaCrosse explained that the City now contracts with
Hennepin County. She went over the new rates. There would be no fee waivers this
year. Nerburn questioned whether a food vendor who was already licensed with
Hennepin County would have to pay. LaCrosse said she will find out. Bergeland
• asked if the same food vendors were used at various events would they pay a the whole
amount at each event. LaCrosse said she thought as long as they were at the same
site, they would pay $28 for the first day and a fee of $7 per additional day. She will
check to be sure. Nerburn said he already has a food vendor for the car show. They
are using the same vendor they used last year.
ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR: Bergeland said she updated the flyers and they need to be
typed. She questioned the cost of food vendor licenses and thought maybe we
should not charge the vendors $45 for booth space. LaCrosse said the food vendors
were charged a licensing fee of $25 last year. This year it would cost $28 for the first
day and $7 each additional day. This is an increase of $10 over last year. Bergeland
said that a $10 increase isn't too bad. Bergeland asked committee members to go to
some of the various arts and crafts shows to pick up business cards from crafters.
She is only looking for crafters who have items that would enhance our show.
Kragness gave Bergeland information on the International craft fair.
BARN DANCE: Kragness asked LaCrosse if the line dance instructor is available
to teach at the barn dance. LaCrosse said yes she is interested. Kragness said there
is no band yet.
CAR SHOW: Nerburn said the club wanted to raise the cost of all car shows
including Earle Brown Days. He told the club the EBD show is different because there
is no charge for the facility or portable restrooms. Their board did approve leaving the
i
cost of the EBD car show at $800 providing they could use the hippodrome and that
portable restrooms were provided. Bergeland said they would have to use only part
of the facility because junior royalty needs more space
JUNIOR ROYALTY: Graham said they may move to the Brooklyn Center High
School auditorium providing there are no costs. She should know this week.
FISHING CONTEST: LaCrosse said she has sent a letter to Tom Zenanko asking
him to sponsor and host the contest. The contest will end at 2:30 p.m. to
accommodate the picnic/games event.
PARADE: Risley said they have updated the application. They have two ideas for a
grand marshal. Their first request is for the International Lions President who is from
India. If that falls through, they will invite a comedian from the Comedy Gallery. The
comedian lives in Brooklyn Center and performed at the Lions fundraiser last year.
Cummings arrived at 8:10 a.m.
PUBLICITY: LaCrosse said the pictures taken a couple years ago are lost.
She will check with Cohen to see if he has any pictures we could use for publicity this
year. He took many pictures last year.
SUNDAY IN CENTRAL PARK: LaCrosse said the schedule is set. First Tricia & the •
Toons will perform, followed by Bear Creek Band and Fireworks.
FINANCIAL REPORT: Cummings reported a balance of $7,737.48 as of February
9, 1993. There was a check request from Nerburn for $800 to the Minnesota Street
Machine Association for the 1993 car show. There was a motion by Pollock,
seconded by Bergeland to approve payment of this request. Motion carried.
OLD BUSINESS: Risley asked Cummings to check to see if the Powderpuff Clown
Club had been paid $250 for the 1992 parade. Cummings said there was nothing
listed in the checkbook. Risley made a motion, seconded by Nerburn to pay the
Powderpuff Clown Club for the 1992 parade. Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS: LaCrosse said that four board members terms have expired.
There was a motion by Roen, seconded by Graham to approve Bergeland,
Cummings, Pollock and Cohen to the board for a three year term. Motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 8:25 a.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
