Meeting Minutes
May 26, 1992
PRESENT: Kragness, Bergeland, Dorff, Graham, Roen, Neilson, Cohen, LaCrosse
and Shirlee Gabbert.
The minutes from May 12, 1992 were approved.
TREASURER'S REPORT: No report.
BARN DANCE: Kragness said it is all set. She needs name tags for the volunteers.
LaCrosse will check to see if the parks and recreation department can make the tags.
CAR SHOW: No report.
CRAFT FAIR: Bergeland said she has 39 crafters and 3 food vendors. She said we
are still sending out applications. Bergeland said she has had a request for a refund
from a woman who has an ill relative and must go out of the country. However, if she
can't get a refund, she can make other arrangements. There was a motion by Bergeland
seconded by Roen to hold to the policy to not refund money for the arts and crafts fair
for any reason. Motion carried. Bergeland added that the committee is meeting this
week and will be sending out confirmation information. She has six craft fair volunteers.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Kragness said she will contact Cohen to see if he is willing to
arrange for the dignitaries.
JUNIOR ROYALTY: Graham said there will an orientation on saturday. There
will also be a pool party, bumper bowling, interviews, a tour of Radio Ahs and dinner at
Bridgemans. There are 15 applicants so far.
FISHING CONTEST: Dorff talked to Tom Zenanko and he will have some prizes
for the contest around the first of June.
PARADE: Roen said they keep coming in.
AMBASSADORS: Cohen said the letters will go out soon. He added that Nyquist,
Cohen and Dorff will contact some of the businesses. Kragness asked Cohen if he would
take care of the speaker portion of the ice cream social.
PICNIC/GAMES: Dorff reported the following donations for this event: 50's Grill, 46
Divanni's, Applebees, T-Wrights, K-Mart, Perkins, and Scoreboard Pizza. He still has
others to contact. The Olive Garden wants to do more than just give a gift certificate.
Dorff would like to give the prizes away as door prizes and give ribbons to the game
winners.
PUBLICITY: LaCrosse said she has talked again to the Star Tribune and there
are a couple more options open. The representative from the paper said if we take out
the display ads on three consecutive days (monday, wednesday, or friday), we will receive
a 20% discount on the second two days. This savings amounts to about $80 per ad which
can be used in the festival and events column in the sunday variety section or on a 2" x
4" ad in the variety section on thursday, June 25. Bergeland suggested we look at the
sunday festival and events column in next sunday's paper and make a decision at the next
board meeting.
OLD BUSINESS: Kragness reported that she has been contacted by ASCAP. They
want us to pay $50/day on days we have music. She said the Aquatennial is now paying
ASCAP but not BMI. LaCrosse said Brooklyn Park Tater Daze is not paying. The
information will be given to Paul Holmlund. Neilson
NEW BUSINESS: Kragness asked for approval to pay the following bills:
Minneapolis Aquatennial $150 Junior Royalty Registration
City of Brooklyn Center 30 North View Pool Rental - Junior Royalty
City of Brooklyn Center 175.74 Postage
There was a motion by Cohen, seconded by Bergeland to pay these bills. Motion
carried.
Cohen said the Olive Garden would like to provide pasta art kits for children at the arts
and crafts fair. They are also interested in providing balloons and ice cream. He will
call to see if these can be used at the picnic/games event. Bergeland said she would like
to have some balloons at the craft fair. Cohen said he will check with the Olive Garden.
ADJOURN: The meeting was adjourned.
NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, June 2, 7:30 a.m. City Hall.
Respectfully Submitted,
Sue LaCrosse
