Meeting Minutes
May 12, 1992
PRESENT: Kragness, Pollock, Roen, Dorff, Cummings, Cohen, Bergeland, Risley, and
LaCrosse.
The meeting was called to order at 7:45 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Pollock, seconded by Dorff to
approve the minutes of April 14, 1992. Motion carried.
TREASURER'S REPORT: Cummings reported a balance of $14,134.79 as of 5/12/92.
Kragness asked for a motion to approve the following bills:
American Speedy Print $130.62 Envelopes
City of Brooklyn Center 26.39 Postage
BHK&R 1287.50 Insurance
There was a motion by Bergeland, seconded by Cohen to approve the payment of these
bills. Motion carried.
Cummings said a sales tax and use form was forwarded to her by Mike Nelson and she
doesn't know how to fill it out. Bergeland said she should call Mike and he will explain it
to her.
AMBASSADORS: Cohen said he will use the same letter as last year but change street
dance to barn dance. He will bring the information to the parks and recreation
department for mailing. He has already received a $500 commitment from Norwest.
BARN DANCE: Kragness said she will have six volunteers through the Jaycees and
two others who responded to the newspaper advertisement for volunteers. The contracts
have been signed for both groups.
CRAFT FAIR: Bergeland reported there have been 34 paid exhibitors and two food
vendors. She would like to have about double that amount. Cummings said she has
deposited checks for 43. She will check the deposit records to see if there is a duplicate
deposit. If so, the balance of the account will be lower.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL: g
Kra g ness has received an agenda for the event from
Brookdale. There will be a few
speeches by dignitaries, J unior royalty will be recognized
and the Brooklyn Community Band will perform. Baskin Robbins will be the ice cream 40
vendor.
FISHING CONTEST: LaCrosse said she has not received any prizes from Tom
Zenanko. EBD may have to pick up the whole prize tab.
PARADE: Risley reported they have 13 bands. This is more than they have ever had.
Cohen asked what the procedure is for political candidates. Risley said they need filler
and anyone who wants to be in the parade can. They must provide their own vehicle. He
said Paul Wellstone will be in the parade.
PICNIC/GAMES: Dorff passed out the games proposal for this event. There will be a
penny scramble for 4 year olds and under, separate running races for 4 and under, 5,6 &
7, and 8, 9 & 10 year olds in both boys and girls divisions, three legged sack races for
ages 11-15, crab races for 5,6 & 7•and 8,9 & 10, and a water balloon toss for adults. In
addition, there will be a jar guess contest and a contest for the oldest and the youngest
in attendance. Dorff will try to secure some prizes from local businesses to give away as
door prizes. Participants will bring their own picnic and refreshments will be sold at the
adjacent softball tournament.
PUBLICITY: Benjamin, Dorff and LaCrosse submitted a publicity proposal. The
proposal will cost $2,619.50. There will be a $2,000 contribution from the North Metro
Tourism Bureau. The net cost will be $619.50. Bergeland said some of this money, if not
all of it, could come from the revenue received from the craft fair. There was a motion
by Cohen, seconded by Bergeland to approve the publicity proposal. Motion carried.
Bergeland would like to stimulate attendance by having the night at the Inn door prize
promoted in the craft fair publicity.
