Meeting Minutes
April 14 , 1992
PRESENT: Nerburn, Graham, Nyquist, Pollock, Bergeland, Neilson,
Roen, Dorff, Cohen, and LaCrosse.
The meeting was called to order at 7 : 45 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Roen, seconded by
Graham to approve the minutes of March 10, 1992 . Motion carried.
Bergeland welcomed Dorff back.
CAR SHOW: Nerburn said the club has been publicizing the show. He
asked Bergeland if the City car that is parked in the lot can be
moved the day of the show. She said it would not be a problem.
• There will be an indoor and an outdoor show.
CRAFT FAIR: Bergeland reported there are already 16 paid
crafters and one food vendor. She said she has a committee of
three people. She asked LaCrosse if Northwest News would do the
flyer again. LaCrosse said she will set up a meeting with
Benjamin and Dorff. Bergeland said her mailing list is up to
about 225 . The committee went to the Canterbury show and picked
up business cards. Information will be sent to them. Bergeland
asked Dorff if we were going to do door prizes again. He said he
was getting prizes for the picnic/games event and didn't want to
solicit twice. Pollock said she would donate a night at the Inn.
The committee discussed the possibility of a prize donation from
K-Mart, Target and Schmidt Music. If there are no other prize
donations, there will just be one prize, the night at the Inn.
JUNIOR ROYALTY: Graham reported a slight delay with the
application. The parks and recreation department will get them
typed. The application fee will be due at the orientation
meeting. The children went to the children ' s hospital . This
year' s junior royalty focus is civic awareness and community
involvement. This year' s royalty and some of last year' s royalty
will participate in the cleanup on April 25 .
FISHING CONTEST: LaCrosse said that Tom Zenanko now has
• another commitment and cannot do the contest. He said he will
provide us with some prizes. However, LaCrosse requested money to
purchase four children' s fishing rods. Other prizes may need to
be purchased if Tom Zenanko does not come through. There was a •
motion by Dorff, seconded by Graham to approve an expenditure of
$150 for the Kid' s Fishing Contest. Motion carried. Cohen' s
committee will also check into a donation from K-Mart.
Kragness arrived at 7 : 55 a.m. She reported she went to the
festival convention and picked up information.
AMBASSADORS: Cohen passed out his proposal and said they will
soon be sending out a mailing. He said if we are going to solicit
merchandise, it should be done as a separate process from the
cash donations. He confirmed budget estimates with the
committees.
Cummings arrived at 8 : 05 a.m.
BARN DANCE: Kragness has the contracts for Best Buddies and
the Bear Creek Band.
FOOD VENDORS: Mary and Pam from the health department discussed
their position in regards to the food vendors at Earle Brown Days
events. They cannot deny anyone a license. However, the committee
can choose to invite or not to invite a vendor. They highlighted
the repeated violations of a particular vendor. There was a
motion by Cohen, seconded by Nyquist to invite only vendors who
have proven satisfactory records by the health department and •
other regulations. Motion carried.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL: No report. Kragness said she will contact
Brookdale to find out how this will be done now that the stage is
gone.
PARADE: No report.
PICNIC/GAMES: Dorff said Charlie LaFevere will chair this
committee. He said there is a lot of work to do.
PUBLICITY: LaCrosse passed out the ad prices of different
papers. Her recommendation is to take out paid ads only in the
Star Tribune and the Anoka Shopper. She asked the committee how
much they want to spend advertising EBD as a whole and how much
they want to spend advertising the craft fair. Neilson said he
thinks we should concentrate on the craft fair, parade, barn
dance, and car show. Bergeland will put together a craft fair
publicity proposal for the next meeting. LaCrosse said she will
try to meet with Benjamin and Dorff.
TALENT CONTEST: Neilson said the information and applications
will be out later this week. He doesn't expect to get many
applications until June. He also has some contacts at studios and
will call them to see if they will post the information. •
