Meeting Minutes
September 17, 1990
City Hall
Those Present: Cohen, Risley, Neilson, Graham, Nerburn, Bergeland,
and LaCrosse.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of July 16, 1990 were approved.
TREASURER'S REPORT: Bergeland reported for Cummings a balance of
$300 . There is one outstanding bill to BFI for $649 . Bergeland is
still trying to get the additional $500 from the antique show.
Without a contract, it is pretty hard.
COMMITTEE CHAIR: Bergeland proposed a co-chairman with herself and
Graham for 1991. In 1992 Graham would co-chair with someone else.
Cohen asked what would happen if the co-chairs didn't get along.
He suggested a chair and a chair elect. Risley said chair elect
could still be responsible fo.- specific dities. The motion was
made by Cohen, second;d by Neilson to keep the position of chair
and add chair elect. Motion passed.
TIME CHANGE: Bergeland said it is hard for Graham to attend
morning meetings. The Monday meetings haven't been well attended.
She sees a need to move meetings to Tuesday or Wednesday evenings.
LaCrosse will check for room availability.
BUDGET DIRECTOR: Bergeland said we need an accountant type person.
Cohen said ossibl
P y Dorff could put it together. Graham knows
someone who might be interested. Cohen sees the need to develop
guidelines. If a committee has to i
o outside de their budget, they
would have to get board approval before spending the money. Cohen
said Dorff could set up budget and guidelines and someone else
could monitor. He said abandoning the Ambassadors approach was
wrong. We should participate in charitable ball and use the
Ambassadors.
PUBLICITY: Bergeland asked Splinter if the city newsletter could
be used as a vehicle to talk about EBD. Splinter said yes and also
suggested sending info to NW News. Brooklyn Center will get one
page in each issue. Neilson said we need to start now and
suggested something different each month.
PARADE: Risley reported the Lions Club will sponsor the parade and
are committed to spending $7, 500 on it.
• Neilson and Cohen would like to see Rotary sponsor an event and
Bergeland would like to see the car dealers sponsor car show.
CARNIVAL: It needs to be moved to a site with more visibility.
Brookdale has consistently said no. The Highland parking lot was
suggested. There was a motion by Nerburn, seconded by Risley to
drop the carnival . Motion passed.
DATE CHANGE: The dates for 1991 are June 26-30 .
EVENTS : Cohen said we should decide fairly soon which events will
be approved. Then Ambassadors can get money or sponsors to cover
expenses.
Ice Cream Social--sponsored by Brookdale
Parade--sponsored by Lions Club
Junior Royalty--
Car Show--
Street Dance--
Craft Show--
Fishing Contest--
Fun Run--sponsored by Chamber?
Sunday In Central Park--sponsored by City
Talent Show
Cohen made a motion to approve that these ten events be held in
1991 and to note the Lions Club will sponsor the parade. The other
events are considered and the committee needs to come up wi-.h a
budget so the Ambassadors can _.eek additional sponsors. Seconded
by Risley. Motion passed. •
There was a suggestion to do mass purchasing to save money,
especially on trophies and printing.
Dorff arrived.
There was some discussion on teen activities. Risley suggested we
invite a few high school students to our meetings to get their
input. Bergeland will contact the principals at Brooklyn Center
High School and Park Center High School .
FUTURE MEETINGS :

Tuesday, November 20, 7 : 00 p.m.
No December meeting.
MEETING ADJOURNED.
Respectfully Submitted,
