Meeting Minutes
June 4 , 1990
Heritage Center
Those present: Graham, Benson, Roen, Jacobsen, Nerburn, Bergeland,
Harris, Risley, Vreeland, Kaehler, Neilson, Dorf, Cohen, and
LaCrosse.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion made by Benson, seconded
by Harris to approve the minutes from May 21. Motion passed.
FINANCIAL REPORT: None
PARADE: No grand marshal yet. Risley suggested Mayor Nyquist or
the three medal of valors. Nyquist was the committee' s first
choice. Next year he will start earlier. He has turned down at
least 30 units because they required money. To date he has 90
units.
CARNIVAL: Bergeland reported we can sell carnival tickets at
Brookdale during the talent show and ice cream social. Ticket
strips sell for $6 and are worth $9 worth of rides. Each ride
takes one ticket. There is a problem with trash at the carnival .
The price for dumpsters is high. Bergeland reported the quote from
Waste Management was over $500. LaCrosse reported the quote from
Gallagher Rubbish for pick up and delivery of a 6 yard or 8 yard
dumpster is $50 . Then an additional $60 for emptying a 6 yard and
$80 for emptying an 8 yard. LaCrosse will check with Dick Schwab
to see if he has any barrels we can use.
Bergeland asked each board member to sell 15 ticket strips.
STREET DANCE: Jacobsen said her advertising will include the info
on the pink flyers, sign on Nerburn' s car in parade, cable show,
tabloid. Solid Gold will have contests.
Neilson will promote street dance and other events during breaks
at the talent contest. Bergeland said every chair should write up
a blurb to give to LaCrosse on June 11.
CRAFT SHOW: Benson has 20 food vendors & craftors who will need
electricity. Bergeland has plenty extension cords. Benson asked
Graham to highlight on Good Company.
• JUNIOR ROYALTY: Graham said they have had two outings with
candidates. Kaehler said she will take care of making up gift
packs for the candidates.
TALENT SHOW: Neilson said there are about 35 entrants. Most
people wait until the last minute to enter. He would like a
volunteer from the Earle Brown Days committee to be a judge at the
finals. He needs certificates of participation to hand out to all
entrants. Kaehler will send applications out to other centers.
CAR SHOW: Nerburn will have his car at Brookdale to promote car
show and other events.
PUBLICITY: Bergeland said someone from Northwest News will be at
City Hall at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 11 to take a picture of the
board. The tabloid will contain eight pages. Copy due by Friday.
The pink flyers and the craft show flyers will hit the businesses,
such as grocery, hotels, motels and tourism office. Dorff said one
of the banners will go on the water tower at the Heritage Center
and the other two will go across Country Rd. 10 . The directional
signs are a problem. The cost for a 21x4 ' sign ranged from $42 . 50
- $125 . Putting stakes in ground is hazardous because of cables
near surface. Dorff also looked at attaching to existing signs,
but city was opposed. Sandwich signs were suggested; Bergeland
will check with Earle Brown commons about borrowing.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Kaehler reported Bob The Beachcomber and the
Brooklyn Community Band will perform.
OLD BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS: Bergeland asked for board approval of the following
bills:
Minnesota Suburban--craftors needed ad $22 . 20
Star Tribune--craftors needed ad 42 . 00
American Speedy--posters 60. 00

Aquatennial--sponsorship 150. 00
Sir Speedy--flyers 326. 06
There was a motion by Vreeland, seconded by Neilson to pay these
bills. Motion passed.

Chambers.
