Adjournment i Earle Brown Days Brooklyn Center Minnesota ' 6301 Shingle Creek Parkway 55430 (612) 561-5440 Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes February 5, 1990 City Hall Those present: Bergeland, Roen, Cohen, Nyquist, Jacobsen, Harris, Cummings, Risley, and LaCrosse. BUDGET REPORT: There was discussion on the budget. Cohen suggested $750 be added to the carnival budget under a special events category. Bergeland reported the antique show expenses should be $400 and the Street Dance expenses should be $700. Motion by Cohen, seconded by Nyquist to approve the budget with the changes. Motion passed. NEW BUSINESS: Bergeland reported the difficulty Rudquist has in making the meetings. She asked the committee to release Rudquist from her responsibilities as board member and treasurer. She will remain on the committee as second signer. Eileen Cummings, also from Marquette Bank, has agreed to take over Rudquist ' s responsibilities. Cummings term would expire 12/31/92 . Motion by Jacobsen seconded by Harris to release Rudquist and appoint Cummings. Motion passed. FINANCIAL REPORT: Cummings reported a balance of $3 , 009 . 40 as of 2/5/90 . Financial report was approved. Bergeland passed out a payment request form. Anyone requesting checks must fill it out and submit it to the board for approval . Once the board has approved the expenditure, Cummings will receive the approved request form and write the check. AMBASSADORS: Cohen reported on the fund raising effort at the Heritage Center. The committee is now contacting businesses for corporate tables and silent and live auction items. Profits from the live and silent auctions will be divided between the chamber and Earle Brown Days. Flyers about the charitable ball will be inserted in the next City Manager' s Newsletter going out to 11, 500 resident homes. CARNIVAL: Bergeland and LaCrosse went to the Midwest Showman' s Convention and found a carnival called Serie Fun Shows out of Luverne, Minnesota. They have 16 rides, half of which are kiddie, 25-30 game concessions, and two food stands. EBD will receive $5 • per concession, 15% commission on gross ticket sales up to $20, 000 and 20% over $20, 000. There will be two specials on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. It is a pay one price promotion. Cost is $8 . Discount coupons will be available for $1 off. Advance tickets will be available at the community center, nine tickets for $6 . The hockey association is interested in doing the cleanup of the carnival grounds and surrounding areas and parking lots. Motion made by Cohen, seconded by Risley to contract with the hockey association to do cleanup for $750 providing they have insurance to cover themselves. Motion passed. PARADE: Risley said he will schedule meetings on the second Tuesday evening of each month. Letters will be going out soon. BUTTONS: Look for a volunteer to chair at next meeting. ANTIQUE SHOW: Confirmed. Company very pleased with facility. JUNIOR ROYALTY: Everything' s going on schedule. TURTLE RACES: Need to let her know if we change location to the Heritage Center. LIARS CONTEST: No confirmation from Don Shelby. Harris will make some contacts with the media. PUBLICITY: It was suggested we distribute flyers in the schools. TALENT CONTEST: The talent contest will be held at Brookdale. Some winners will be featured at various EBD events. Should break even. CAR SHOW: The MSMA is concerned about the location; they'd rather have it at Westbrook Mall. They only want us to charge $1 admission. Nerburn needs $700 for the car show. Motion by Risley, seconded by Jacobsen to approve the $700 expenditure providing we can charge $2 and the show remains at the Heritage Center site. NEW BUSINESS: Rotary is asking for nominations for the Brooklyn Center Volunteer of The Year Award and the Brooklyn Center Lifetime Achievement Award. Nominations must be received by March 15, 1990. LaCrosse asked committee to think about this and possibly make suggestions at next meeting. NEXT MEETING: Monday, March 5, 7 : 30 a.m. City Hall Council Chambers. Adjourn.
