Meeting Minutes
February 5, 1990
City Hall
Those present: Bergeland, Roen, Cohen, Nyquist, Jacobsen, Harris,
Cummings, Risley, and LaCrosse.
BUDGET REPORT: There was discussion on the budget. Cohen
suggested $750 be added to the carnival budget under a special
events category.
Bergeland reported the antique show expenses should be $400
and the Street Dance expenses should be $700. Motion by Cohen,
seconded by Nyquist to approve the budget with the changes. Motion
passed.
NEW BUSINESS: Bergeland reported the difficulty Rudquist has in
making the meetings. She asked the committee to release Rudquist
from her responsibilities as board member and treasurer. She will
remain on the committee as second signer. Eileen Cummings, also
from Marquette Bank, has agreed to take over Rudquist ' s
responsibilities. Cummings term would expire 12/31/92 . Motion by
Jacobsen seconded by Harris to release Rudquist and appoint
Cummings. Motion passed.
FINANCIAL REPORT: Cummings reported a balance of $3 , 009 . 40 as of
2/5/90 . Financial report was approved.
Bergeland passed out a payment request form. Anyone
requesting checks must fill it out and submit it to the board for
approval . Once the board has approved the expenditure, Cummings
will receive the approved request form and write the check.
AMBASSADORS: Cohen reported on the fund raising effort at the
Heritage Center. The committee is now contacting businesses for
corporate tables and silent and live auction items. Profits from
the live and silent auctions will be divided between the chamber
and Earle Brown Days.
Flyers about the charitable ball will be inserted in the next
City Manager' s Newsletter going out to 11, 500 resident homes.
CARNIVAL: Bergeland and LaCrosse went to the Midwest Showman' s
Convention and found a carnival called Serie Fun Shows out of
Luverne, Minnesota. They have 16 rides, half of which are kiddie,
25-30 game concessions, and two food stands. EBD will receive $5
• per concession, 15% commission on gross ticket sales up to $20, 000
and 20% over $20, 000. There will be two specials on Wednesday and
Thursday evenings. It is a pay one price promotion. Cost is $8 .
Discount coupons will be available for $1 off. Advance tickets
will be available at the community center, nine tickets for $6 .
The hockey association is interested in doing the cleanup of
the carnival grounds and surrounding areas and parking lots.
Motion made by Cohen, seconded by Risley to contract with the
hockey association to do cleanup for $750 providing they have
insurance to cover themselves. Motion passed.
PARADE: Risley said he will schedule meetings on the second
Tuesday evening of each month. Letters will be going out soon.
BUTTONS: Look for a volunteer to chair at next meeting.
ANTIQUE SHOW: Confirmed. Company very pleased with facility.
JUNIOR ROYALTY: Everything' s going on schedule.
TURTLE RACES: Need to let her know if we change location to the
Heritage Center.
LIARS CONTEST: No confirmation from Don Shelby. Harris will make
some contacts with the media.
PUBLICITY: It was suggested we distribute flyers in the schools.
TALENT CONTEST: The talent contest will be held at Brookdale.
Some winners will be featured at various EBD events. Should break
even.
CAR SHOW: The MSMA is concerned about the location; they'd rather
have it at Westbrook Mall. They only want us to charge $1
admission. Nerburn needs $700 for the car show. Motion by Risley,
seconded by Jacobsen to approve the $700 expenditure providing we
can charge $2 and the show remains at the Heritage Center site.
NEW BUSINESS: Rotary is asking for nominations for the Brooklyn
Center Volunteer of The Year Award and the Brooklyn Center Lifetime
Achievement Award. Nominations must be received by March 15, 1990.
LaCrosse asked committee to think about this and possibly make
suggestions at next meeting.
NEXT MEETING: Monday, March 5, 7 : 30 a.m. City Hall Council
Chambers.
Adjourn.
Respectfully submitted,
Sue LaCrosse •
