HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990 05-07 EBDM i Earle Brown Days Brooklyn Center Minnesota 6301 Shingle Creek Parkway 55430 (612) 561-5440 Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes May 7, 1990 City Hall Those present: Risley, Graham, Dorf f, Nerburn, Bergeland, Neilson, Roen, Cohen, Graffunder, Vreeland, LaCrosse and Kristen Mann. Bergeland introduced Kristen Mann and said she helped at the charity ball auction. She will be placed on the mailing list. FINANCIAL REPORT: The charitable ball auction made $7, 300 less $1, 000 for expenses. This leaves $6, 300 to be divided between Earle Brown Days and chamber. The Lions Club presented the committee with a check for $1, 000 earmarked for the parade. Nerburn questioned how the auction proceeds compare to the Ambassador fund raising. The antique show has paid $1, 500 to Earle Brown Days. Bergeland will know a little more at next meeting. Cohen will check to see if Rotary will be donating money this year. CARNIVAL: Advance tickets are here. Need posters. Hockey association will do cleanup for $750 . PARADE: Timberwolves coach Musselman is tentatively the grand marshal . If this falls through, Bergeland said Mary Jane Gustafson suggested John Visner, a native of Brooklyn Center. He got an award for a song he wrote. JUNIOR ROYALTY: Graham has 17 applications. The deadline is May 15 . They can use Lions Club float in parade. They plan to attend car show and would like to assist in giving out trophies. Nerburn said O.K. TALENT CONTEST: Applications will be sent out later this week. They will also be available at Brookdale, library and the community center. Winner of each category will have the opportunity to perform at various Earle Brown Days events. CAR SHOW: Nerburn passed out 400 flyers at a recent show. He expects a good response. PUBLICITY: Bergeland suggested we look into Northwest News to do the tabloid. There was a motion by Cohen to let Bergeland see if she can get an honest assurance they will still be in business. Seconded by Risley. Motion passed. Dorff will help make arrangements with businesses to put up our banners and posters. He will assist with the boulevard directional signs. LaCrosse met with a representative from WLTE. We can get 25 spots for our $1, 600. They are number one with the age group we are trying to attract. Dorff made a motion, seconded by Graham to go with WLTE. Motion passed. 5R AND FUN RUN: Cancelled because the run coordinator was not available June 23 . PARR AND REC. : LaCrosse reported the addition of Neilson' s group Brandwine to the Sunday in Central Park entertainment. They will end with a stirring patriotic finale prior to fireworks. OLD BUSINESS: LaCrosse met with City Manager, Jerry Splinter, Tom Heenan of the Health Dept. and Director of Recreation, Arnie Mavis concerning concessions. LaCrosse passed out the policy for Earle Brown Days concessions. Even though parade fees have been waived, vendors must fill out paper work with Sharon at City Hall . Risley made a motion to charge $50 for food vendors at the parade. The charge at the street dance and craft show would be $50 for each food vendor plus the $25 license fee. Seconded by Cohen. Motion passed. NEW BUSINESS: There were two bills to be paid. For junior royalty- trophies, crowns, applications in the amount of $363 . 85 and for postage to City of Brooklyn Center in the amount of $9 . 75 . There was a motion by Nerburn, seconded by Dorff to pay these bills. Motion passed. NEXT MEETING: Monday, May 21, 7 : 30 a.m. City Hall Council Chambers!
