Meeting Minutes
October 13, 1992
PRESENT: Kragness, Dorff, Bergeland, Roen and LaCrosse.
The meeting was called to order at 7:50 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Dorff, seconded by
Bergeland to approve the minutes from June 23, 1992.
PAYMENT OF BILLS: $132.10 to Henry Dorff for picture frames & certificates and
LaCrosse asked for approval to pay a bill not to exceed $150 to BCHS for custodial
services for the parade. There was a motion by Bergeland, seconded by Roen to pay
these bills. Motion carried.
• CERTIFICATES: Dorff asked committee members to distribute the remaining
framed certificates to 1992 sponsors.
8 a.m. Cummings and Cohen arrived at the meeting.
FINANCIAL REPORT: Cummings reported a balance of $7,835.04. There was a
motion by Dorff, seconded by Roen to send a $10 check to Joy Johnson for our
failure to award her a Baker's Square pie. Motion carried.
After adjusting the account for the payment of these bills and adding $16
miscellaneous cash, Cummings reported a balance of $7,550.
AMBASSADORS: Cohen reported that some companies are going to include it in
their budgets now. He said letters need to go out earlier. Risley has indicated to
Kragness that as long as the Lions have pull tabs, they will be able to sponsor the
parade. Cohen said the question is when to send out the letter and added it might be
best to send it out the first of the year.
ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR: Bergeland said she needs more help. Kragness said that
two of last years volunteers might be interested, possibly even taking over as chair in
the future. Bergeland said that a neighbor of hers is interested in continuing but not
• as the chair.
Cohen said we need to advertise again for volunteers. It might be a good idea to list •
the various committees. It should be put in the City Manager's newsletter.
PICNIC/GAMES: Dorff said we need to cut out the sack races and add water
balloon toss for the kids. He said he would like to see more publicity at the schools
and to adjust the time a little better for less overlap with the fishing contest. Kragness
asked him if the Rotary Club would sponsor it again. Dorff said he has not asked
them but he thinks they will.
BARN DANCE: Kragness said there should be two separate dance floors, one for
the kids and one for the adult dancers. Some of the more serious dancers were
complaining about the children and how they were afraid of running into them. Line
dancing is big now and Cummings said maybe it could be done at the barn dance.
Kragness knows someone who can teach it and will contact her.
CAR SHOW: Cohen will contact Big Wheel Rossi for sponsorship. Roen said
Nerburn is doing a good job.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Cohen said to start the program at 6:30 rather than 7 p.m.
and shorten the program. People come mainly to see the junior royalty, have ice
cream and hear the band.
JUNIOR ROYALTY: Kragness said Graham has indicated she will continue. •
KID'S FISHING CONTEST: LaCrosse said Tom Zenanko will host if he is in
town. The contest hours could be changed to end at 2:30 p.m.
PARADE: No report.
PUBLICITY: LaCrosse asked if the North Metro Tourism planned to give EBD
$2,000 for publicity. Bergeland said it is budgeted. LaCrosse said we would probably
do about the same type of newspaper ads next year. NorthWest News said they will
probably do separate newspapers for Tater Daze and Earle Brown Days.
SUNDAY IN CENTRAL PARK: LaCrosse said there is a request from Arnie Mavis for
$1,000 to be added to the fireworks budget. This would give us $9,000 worth of
fireworks. Cohen asked how much the City pays. LaCrosse said the City's
contribution is $8,000 and the Lions Club $1,000. There was a motion by Cohen,
seconded by Cummings to approve $1,000 for fireworks. Motion carried.
LaCrosse said that Alice Picard from the Brooklyn Center Tennis Club contacted her in
regards to EBD not publicizing the tennis tournament enough. She also indicated she
would like to attend the board meetings. LaCrosse said she sent her a notice of
today's meeting. Kragness would like her name, address and phone number. •
TALENT CONTEST: LaCrosse said Neilson has indicated he will chair for
• another year. LaCrosse has talked to Mavis and he has said the community center
can be used again.
NEW BUSINESS: Kragness asked everyone if they had heard of the new law
festival. She asked when it would be held. Bergeland said June 17-20. Roen asked if
there would be any conflicts with the softball tournament. LaCrosse said there should
be some traffic and parking problems and asked Bergeland if there would be shuttle
buses. Bergeland said there would. LaCrosse asked if we should scale down EBD
this year. Cohen said no. The only way it would have to be scaled down is if there
was not enough money.
