HomeMy WebLinkAbout1989 11-06 EBDM Earle Brown Days Brooklyn Center Minnesota 6301 Shingle Creek Parkway 55430 (612) 5615440 Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes November 6, 1989 City Hall Those present: Bergeland, Nerburn, Graham, Harris, Neilson, Risley, Vreeland, Cohen, Roen and LaCrosse. Bergeland reported Nelson called her to resign from the Earle Brown Days Board of Directors and that Lee was transferred to another bank. She said Dick Risley, who will be the 1990 parade chairperson, is interested in being on the board. Patty Rudquist, who is willing to replace Lee as treasurer, is also interested in serving on the board. Cohen made a motion for Risley to replace Nelson, term to expire 12/31/91, and Rudquist to replace Lee, term to expire 12/31/92 . Seconded by Neilson. Motion passed unanimously. . Bergeland said Eileen Cummings from the bank will be the second signer. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes from October 2 were approved. FINANCIAL REPORT: No report. BUDGET REPORT: No report. AMBASSADORS: Cohen reported a proposed plan to have a charitable ball at the Heritage Center on Friday, May 11. The local businesses would be solicited, and the proceeds would be divided among Earle Brown Days the chamber and charitable organizations. Earle Brown Days needs to put together a budget specifying how much money they need. The committee told Cohen to proceed. CARNIVAL: Bergeland reported we have a site located next to the Earle Brown Towers office building. LaCrosse and Bergeland are concerned about contract and everything Klein wants us to provide. Harris said she thinks the hockey association would be interested in clean up. She can offer them $500/four days. Cohen made a motion for Bergeland to revise the contract, send to Klein and then see if they want to come to the next meeting. Seconded by Risley. Passed unanimously. Cohen suggested Dorff to coordinate advance ticket sales. . PARADE: Committee will meet Thursday. Risley to chair. Don Shelby was suggested as a grand marshall and possibly as a judge for the fishing story contest. Bergeland also suggested Dave Dahl or Paul Douglas to do the weather from an Earle Brown Days site. BUTTONS/MEMORABILIA: No report. i JUNIOR ROYALTY: Budget will remain the same. They will participate in the trim the tree contest. The parents came '., with the idea of a photo Christmas card to send to the businesses who supported them. ANTIQUE SHOW: No report. CRAFT SHOW: No report. TURTLE RACES: Harris said we need to decide on a day. It' s free to participants. They bring between 50-100 turtles. Need 200 square feet and grass needs to be freshly mowed. They bring 5-7 people. People can bring their own turtle, but can't be a snapping turtle. Cost is $100. The races will be held Sunday, site and time to be determined. MISS BROOKLYN CENTER: Graham checked with the Aquatennial, Blaine and Brooklyn Park. The committee is responsible for setting up their own guidelines; for example, should it be restricted to residents. Girls must be between 17-22 . There is a $450 Aquatennial fee, a clothing allowance of approximately $750 and coronation expenses of $200 . Brooklyn Park' s budget last year was $1550. Chaperons can be provided by committee or parents. Cohen thinks we should pursue it. Graham will submit a report at the next meeting. TALENT SHOW: There will be junior, teen, adult and senior • divisions. Suggested entry fees: $10 individual, $15 two to four people, and $25 larger groups. Have the preliminary on Thursday, finals on Saturday, Sunday or Monday, maybe in conjunction with Miss Brooklyn Center. Expenses would be for publicity, trophies and merchandise for prizes. Merchandise may be donated. First, second and third place winners. Bergeland asked Neilson to put together a proposal . CAR SHOW: There is a national car show at the fair grounds on Earle Brown Days weekend. Nerburn asked if we could have it Sunday, June 17 . Bergeland will see if the property can be used. Two board members left. There was not a quorum. Bergeland postponed decision on car show to the next meeting. The rest of the agenda items were tabled to the next meeting.
