HomeMy WebLinkAbout1989 10-02 EBDM � � s Earle Brown Days Brooklyn Center Minnesota 6301 Shingle: Creek Parkway 55430 (612) 561 5440 Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes October 2 , 1989 City Hall Those present: Dorff, Neilson, Jacobsen, Alford, Bergeland, Graham, Lee, Roen, Harris, Graffunder, Nyquist, Countryman, Splinter, LaCrosse. CORRECTION TO MINUTES: Lee reported the 1989 installment to the City should be $2 , 270. There was a motion by Jacobsen, seconded by Harris to approve the minutes as corrected. FINANCIAL REPORT: Lee reported a balance of $2 , 962 . The treasurer' s report was approved. On behalf of the City Council, Nyquist made a presentation recognizing the hard work Alford and Quenroe have given to Earle Brown Days and the community. • ASSIGNMENT OF CHAIR POSITIONS: a) Antique Show - Special events committee b) Craft Show - Special events committee C) Flea Market - Special events committee d) Turtle Races - Harris. Bergeland said they only charge $100 for transportation. They don't give out prizes. However, it could be organized any way we want. e) Miss Brooklyn Center - no chair yet. Graham will get some information, including costs, by the next meeting. f) Talent Show - Neilson g) Carnival - Bergeland & LaCrosse. Graffunder will assist with contract. We cannot use BCHS. May be able to use the property just north of Earle Brown Towers. h) Parade - no chair yet. Dorff asked Splinter if the City would have someone who could do it. Splinter said the problem with that is it becomes a City event rather than a community event. Splinter will think about it and report to the committee at the next meeting. LaCrosse will send a notice requesting a parade chairperson to the Post and the City newsletter. i) Car Show - Nerburn j ) Street Dance - Jacobsen k) Junior Royalty - Graham 1) Ambassadors - Cohen, with assistance from Dorff. Some . of the junior royalty parents may be interested in helping. -2- m) Publicity - LaCrosse. Harris said she is interested in helping. n) Banners/Signs - Dorff o) Ice Cream Social - Kaehler P) Buttons - no chair yet. Dorff said he still has $20 coming in. Graham will check with junior royalty parents to see if anyone is interested. OLD BUSINESS: a) Hide-A-Key - It was decided to delete the hide-a-key because of the lack o 0 f communication between the Earle Brown Days committee and the Historical Society. They could still have it but it shouldn't be advertised as an EBD event. b) Celebrate Minnesota 1990 - LaCrosse asked how far we wanted to get involved with this. There were no suggestions. Alford said Ernie McArther might be interested in planning a pageant or play with an historical theme. NEW BUSINESS: • a) Teen Activity - Neilson said contests work. Could maybe charge, give prizes. Volleyball is also successful. b) Vice-chair - It' s a g ood idea to have someone work with Ber e g land for this year and take over as chair for 1991. C) Horseshoe Tournament d) Contest for the greatest fishing story--Harris. Bergeland asked her to put some ideas together and bring to next meeting.
