EARLE BROWN DAYS
MEETING MINUTES
September 11, 1989
City Hall
Those present: Alford, Rudquist, Lee, Benson, Jacobsen,
McNaughton, Nyquist, Neilson, Countryman, Roen, Bergeland,
Vreeland, Cohen, LaCrosse.
Bergeland thanked Alford for her past year as chair.
FINANCIAL REPORT: Alford reported a balance of $2 , 946 . 69 . EBD
owes the City $2 , 018 for the 189 payment of Constitution Hall . The
City has agreed to postpone the payment until there is more money.
The treasurer' s report was approved.
POTENTIAL 1990 EVENTS: Bergeland said a kiddie carnival only can
be held on the Highland property.
• Cohen said we need to look at what will make money, what has the
most community impact, the availability of people to work and
publicity.
Benson suggested a Miss Brooklyn Center Pageant. Cohen said the
Jaycees did it for years. He said it is a major financial and
staff commitment. A chaperon must accompany the person to all
events. Also, we would need insurance. Benson will check with
other communities and report back at the next meeting.
Bergeland went down the list of last year' s committees and asked
if they should be continued. The committee decided the following
should be kept.

New events were discussed. Benson will check into the possibility
of a craft show, antique show and a huge garage sale. Jacobsen
will look into turtle races. The chamber will sponsor a 10k and
5k on Saturday morning and barbecue on Sunday before the concert.
A children' s theater was also suggested.
The auction / silent auction will be dropped. If we receive any
gift donations, Vreeland suggested we sell raffle tickets at the
street dance.
PROSPECTIVE BOARD MEMBERS: Bergelan d proposed to the board four
prospective board members.
They are Jackie Graham, the Junior Royalty chair for the past year.
Bruce Neilson, a member of the entertainment industry for 35-40
years as a performer, producer, director, and agent. Keller
Harris, from Sir Speedy Printing, with a background in public
relations and advertising. Jeff Lee employed at Marquette
Brookdale. He has also agreed to be the treasurer.
Cohen made a motion to appoint Graham, Neilson, Harris and Lee to
the board. Seconded by Vreeland. Lee' s term will expire Dec 31,
1992 . Graham and Harris ' terms will expire Dec. 31, 1990.
Neilson' s term will expire Dec. 31, 1991. Motion passed
unanimously.
Nyquist made a motion to authorize Lee as treasurer, Rudquist as
the second signer and Bergeland as the third signer. Two out of
three signatures will be required. Seconded by Cohen. Motion
passed unanimously.
Alford said Nelson will assist with budget. •
SCHEDULE: There was a motion made by Countryman, seconded by
Alford to schedule ongoing meetings on the first Monday of the
month. Motion passed unanimously.
CHAIR ASSIGNMENTS: Will be made at the October meeting. Neilson
suggested a talent contest be added to the list of possible
activities.
NEW BUSINESS: Roen announced there will be a pancake breakfast on
September 24 at Brooklyn Center High School. It is sponsored by
the Lions Club.
NEXT MEETING: Monday, October 2 , 7 : 30 a.m. , City Hall Council
Chambers.
