The meeting was called to order at 7:42 a.m. FINANCIAL REPORT: Zastrow reported a balance of$11, 641.77 as of May 23, 1995. PAYMENT OF BILLS: BHK & R Liability Insurance $1,442.00 Leaps and Bounds Junior Royalty outing 95.53 • Anderson's Junior Royalty crowns, float supplies 213.05 New Market Cake& punch supplies 44.64 American Judges, Inc. Parade judges 250.00 There was a motion by Neilson, seconded by Dorff to approve payment of the bills. Motion carried. ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR: Holcomb said she has been working on getting entertainment. She can get an accordion player and his two sons who play drums and guitar for a three hour block of time for $225. She will use the recreation department's PA system. There are 41 vendors so far. She said she got a total of seven mini donut vendors and sent most of those back. BINGO: All set. CAR SHOW: No report. HALL OF FAME: No report. ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Buse said they have been contacting Dairy Queen. Or they may rent a freezer. LaCrosse said the community band is scheduled. Neilson asked if he would be the emcee and Kragness said yes. • JUNIOR ROYALTY: Graham said their first parade will be June 8 in Spring Lake Park. They netted $327.89 at the garage sale. They are averaging about one activity a week. There are 16 children signed up. They will also be in the parade. 8:05 a.m. Cohen arrived. PARADE: Ditty will go over everything with Risley. Ditty has talked to Brooklyn Center High School. The Lions will have pop and popcorn at Earle Brown. They will give tickets to the band leaders. He said they are thinking about moving the judging stand to the other side of the bridge. Kragness expressed her concern because it is more residential on that side. LaCrosse said she gets many calls from band parents wanting to know where the judges stand will be. She said you would probably have a higher concentration of people. Cohen suggested letting band directors know what is expected of bands. Perhaps points could be deducted from bands who stop in front of judges and cause big gaps in the parade. PICNIC/GAMES: Dorff said he has been going around to the businesses. He prepared a letter of introduction to take out with him to the businesses. He said it helps to hand the manager a letter. He passed them around to other committee members to use when they made their contacts. So far, he has made 52 contacts. He suggested everyone get the telephone number, to find out who the manager is, and when they are going to be in. Otherwise, you have to keep going back. He has received 12 prizes. Buse said she could donate some gift certificates. She will bring them to the next meeting. FINANCE/BUDGET: Cohen said he will receive $500 from First Star Bank and asked • that no other committee members contact them. He said after the legislative session, he will have more time to contact businesses. PUBLICITY: LaCrosse said she has started to place ads. She met with Kevin Palmer at King Video and they will work up a script for her to look at. The editorial articles were give to Mike Maslow. TALENT CONTEST: Neilson said the applications were sent out. We have received four entries so far and all are new names from last year. He said this sounds encouraging. TEEN BOP DANCE: Nelson said asked Ditty if the Lioness van will be handing out food donated or will they be selling it. Ditty said the Lions will take care of it. Nelson said she contacted Patches the Clown. He does face painting and some magic with comedy. The cost would be $75 for the evening. She asked if the sub station or EBD pays for it. Kragness said EBD will pay for the clown and the portable restroom. Nelson said the security is taken care of. She said publicity will consist of some posters. Word of mouth works out the best for spreading information. The sub station will have a float in the parade. 8:30 a.m. Swanson arrived. 2 • WATER SHOW: Has been canceled. PROMOTIONAL CAMPAIGN: Swanson said the fun run and walk will begin at 9 a.m. The runners will go around Palmer Lake for a l0k. There will also be a 2 mile run and a 3 mile walk. The walkers will go to Brookdale. Flyers will be available at city hall, community center, Brookdale, community education departments and the library. The cost will be $10 and participants will receive a t-shirt. No pre-sign required. The runners will compete for prizes. Swanson said the people who have been working on the fun run said they would be happy to get 20 runners for the first year. Swanson reported on the bingo card contest. The bingo cards will be available in the June 7 Sun Post and at city hall, community center and Brookdale. The committee is soliciting businesses to be on the card. People go around to the businesses to get their card stamped. When they get a bingo across, down or diagonally, they bring the card to the community center and drop in box. If they fill the full card, they drop in a different box. Swanson asked if the drawings could be done at Sunday In Central Park. LaCrosse said yes.
