turned in donations of$450 from businesses and $2,000 from North Metro Tourism.
ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR: Holcomb said there are 23 exhibitors and 5 food vendors. There
will be two mini donut stands. She is trying to get Wendy and other entertainment. LaCrosse
said the high school theater group wants to perform. She will call Holcomb with their phone
number. The deadline for applications is next Monday.
•
BINGO: Ditty said the swim club will sponsor and he will do calling again.
CAR SHOW: No report
DANCE: Kragness said the chamber will help with volunteers the night of the
dance. She still has to order food supplies and is debating a separate dance area for children.
FINANCE/BUDGET: Cohen said the letters have gone out to the Brooklyn Center
businesses. His committee will not be contacting the car dealers. LaCrosse passed out the
spreadsheets of most Brooklyn Center businesses by area. Neilson, Dorff and LaCrosse put
together this list from the chamber book and a business listing from the assessing department.
The purpose of the list is to break up Brooklyn Center and assign committees or individuals to
an area or areas. All monies, prizes, gift certificates will be pooled and split up to different
committees based on need. Cohen stressed that businesses marked Budget/Finance on the sheet
should not be contacted because they have already been solicited for donations.
HALL OF FAME: No report
FISHING CONTEST: Ditty said North Country will sponsor the contest and they may be
• interested in passing out the prizes. They would like to be in the parade.

probably going to give the band leaders two pop tickets for each student which can be redeemed
at the end of the parade at Earle Brown School. Ditty said we are not paying for any units.
LaCrosse said a number of parade entries have indicated a fee. She will send them a letter
informing them of the policy of not paying for units. Kragness said the portable restrooms
should be spread out more. Ditty will let her know where he wants them.
8:15 a.m. Nelson arrived.
PICNIC/GAMES: Dorff said he thought Rotary was planning to sponsor the event again. He
suggested maybe giving out the prizes for the fishing contest at the showmobile right before the
picnic/games begins.

PUBLICITY: LaCrosse asked if the committee wanted the same publicity ads as last
year. Kragness said yes. Bergeland said not to put in the arts and crafts fair ad in the Wisconsin
2 •
• paper because it did not generate any participation. Holcomb would like some 8 '/2 x 11"
posters. Kragness suggested distributing arts & crafts flyers around the office buildings. The
committee did not like the color of the posters last year and suggested golden rod. There was a
suggestion to reverse some colors and make sure Brooklyn Center is on it. On the general
poster, it was suggested that only the most popular or new events be listed. Something like a
complete listing of activities is available at.
Maslow said he would like to see committee members write the editorial articles for the tabloid.
Then Sun Post staff would edit them. Cohen said he thought the picnic/games event would
make a great article. Any committee members wishing to write articles should do so and bring
them to the next meeting on May 23.
Swanson highlighted some of the promotional items that will be done during EBD. There will
be a news conference before the parade, a community walk/fun run, KARE 11 Sunrise may
come out to the arts and crafts fair and alerts will go out on different events, like the teen bop
dance. Swanson asked committee chairs to approach the media if they do come out so that we
control what information goes out.
Maslow said the tabloid goes out on June 14.
