Meeting Minutes
March 14, 1995
PRESENT: Kragness, Roen, Dr. Duane Orn representing the historical society, Nelson,
Neilson, Slupske, Lauri Winters representing the Brooklyn Center Sun Post and LaCrosse.
The meeting was called to order at 7:42 a.m.
FINANCIAL REPORT: Cummings faxed a copy of the final budget including expenses
and deposits for all 1994 events. Copies were distributed at the meeting. The ending
balance for 1994 is $9,288.45. There was a motion by Neilson, seconded by Roen to
approve the treasurer's report. Motion carried.
CAR SHOW: Nerburn could not make the meeting but had called to report that the
car show will be held Saturday, July 1 at Brookdale.
• DANCE: Kragness said Kristen Mann will co-chair the dance. The chamber of
commerce had booked a band for an event and the event was cancelled. The chamber
requested EBD consider the band they booked for this event. This would help out the
chamber financially. The band is Et Cetera and the cost is $1,550. Neilson brought in an
audio tape of the group. It was decided to hire this band for the dance. The board
discussed getting more participation from the chamber. They would like to see a
representative from the chamber serve on the EBD board of directors and would like to
have some assistance with publicity to businesses.
FINANCE: Kragness said Cohen had called and will be available to attend board
meetings beginning in April. He told her the letters could go out to businesses.
HALL OF FAME: Orn said he was the liaison for the Hall of Fame and the
Brooklyn Historical Society. They are trying to get a little more organized and have a
more formal recognition for the recipient. They would like to have a program in
conjunction with an EBD event and possibly have the recipient be grand marshal in parade.
Some Hall of Fame candidates might make a good grand marshal. They have a budget
through the historical society and the Brooklyn Center Hall of Fame committee does
fundraising. They would like to have a unit in the parade.

FISHING CONTEST: No report
ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Kragness said there is a new ice cream place going in.
LaCrosse said she has booked the community band.
JUNIOR ROYALTY: No report.
PARADE: The Lions Club will be meeting shortly to determine sponsorship of the
parade.
PICNIC/GAMES: No report.
PUBLICITY: As part of the fundraising effort, committee members would take out
EBD flyers and posters to businesses. We need to figure out who is going to what
business. We should have this as a top agenda item for the next board meeting. LaCrosse
said she ordered business cards for the board of directors. There is a space for them to fill
in their name. This card should only be used by the board of directors.
8:30 a.m. Swanson arrived.
TEEN BOP DANCE: Nelson clarified whether the event was on Friday or Saturday
night. Kragness said Saturday night.
SUNDAY IN CENTRAL PARK: No report •
TALENT CONTEST: Neilson said Colleen of the St. Paul Winter Carnival will fax
LaCrosse a list of their applicants. LaCrosse asked him to see if they could send labels
instead. He will check.
WATER SHOW: Slupske said there is a problem with parking. We can probably use
the lot at Dale Tile and the Hiway 100 club said we could use their lot. This gives us
about 200 parking spots. We would probably have to have a shuttle bus also. The question
is where to have the shuttle bus pick up people. It was decided that in order to have the
water show, a sponsor would have to be found. Slupske asked LaCrosse to get a video tape
of the water show and the EBD cable ad from last Y ear.
OLD BUSINESS: Swanson said the image campaign will kick off with
community nights. There will be four different meetings in which people can express what
they think is good and what they would like to have changed. They would like to have the
big ick off during g EBD with the slogan, buttons, banners, and a float in the parade. She
was wondering if during the water show, the skiers could hold up a banner. Slupske said
he thought so.
PAYMENT OF BILLS: There was a motion by Neilson, seconded by Roen to pay the
2 •
• Minneapolis Aquatennial for the registration fee for the junior royalty. Motion carried.
There was a motion by Neilson, seconded by Roen to pay American Speedy Print $716.85
for letterhead, envelopes and business cards.
Slupske said an auction is a good way to make money. It is a good idea to have it at
events where there are already people. It should be held in a place that is enclosed. An
auctioneer does it all except secure the items and the publicity.
NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, April 11, 1995, 7:30 a.m., City Hall Conference
Room A.
ADJOURN: The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 a.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Sue LaCrosse
City Liaison
