HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994 09-13 EBDM � 1 Earle Brown Days WBrooklyn Center Minnesota 01 Shingle Creek Parkway 55430 (612)569-3400 Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes September 13, 1994 PRESENT: Kragness, Roen Dorff, Ber eland Pollock Neilson and LaCrosse. g , Berg eland, meeting was called to order at 7:46 a.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Roen, seconded by Pollock to approve the minutes of August 8, 1994. Motion carried. ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR: Bergeland said there is a food vendor who has signed up for 3 booths for next year's show. He said it was the best he ever did. She said she will have Paige clean up the list. She believes they got about 200 postcards back from people who want to be kept on the list. . BUDGET`.:. . LaCrosse discussed the spreadsheet which was prepared to show how close each committee was to their proposed profit or loss. She explained that the Ambassadors was a little off because the committee had said if a business had indicated a specific event to sponsor, that amount be reflected in the budget of the event rather than the. Ambassadors. We still owe the City 3,660. And, the Lions Club still needs to give us-,their check for 7,500. LaCrosse said we will not have a very large reserve next year because their isn't much in the checking account. We need to look at all events. Kragness said we need to look at new ways to generate money. She said some of the festivals, such as the St. Paul Winter Carnival, sell festival memberships. She said we could advertise in the City Newsletter that we are looking for sponsors. Pollock suggested a door prize drawing for those who contribute. BARN DANCE: LaCrosse asked if line dancing was losing popularity. Neilson said he thought it was. LaCrosse said maybe the type of dance needs to be changed next year to a 50's dance or something with polkas. She suggested the Chmiewlewski band because they are very popular in this area and attract a big crowd at Entertainment In The Park. Neilson will check on their availability and cost. PARADE: Kragness said she talked to the treasurer of the Lions Club and he said they would probably continue supporting the parade. He said not to worry about it. Kragness said she heard attendance was down at many festivals this year. LaCrosse 1 suggested an evening brainstorming session to discuss not only new fundraising ideas but also publicity. The council members, Mary Welch, Roxana Benjamin and Terri Swanson were suggested. LaCrosse said she would talk to Terri to see if she has any names that could be added to the list. LaCrosse will check for a room. Kragness asked LaCrosse if certificates of appreciation had been sent to the Ambassadors. LaCrosse said no; she had not been asked to do so. She asked her if she could get them done. Kragness made a note to the board that the following parade bills have already been paid: Rosettes $150 Prior Lake Lions Club 375 Powder Puff Clown Club 150 Twin City Unicycle 125 APPROVALOF BILLS: City of Brooklyn Center Cable ad $425 There was a motion by Neilson, seconded by Dorff to pay bill. Motion carried. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 13 at 7 p.m. at the Brooklyn Center Community Center, Arts & Crafts Room.
