said there are 57 crafters and 5 food vendors which is 20 ahead of last year at this time.
• She has received close to 60 responses from the ad. Today is supposed to be the
deadline but she will keep taking applications. Holcomb has tentatively agreed to take
over the event. Bergeland will help with set up Friday morning but will take off at noon.
Holcomb is coordinating entertainment and has secured the Wendy's girl who will pass
out frisbees. Other possibilities include McDonald's, Bingo the clown from Ground
Round, Twinkie the Kid and a dinosaur. She also has a possible volunteer face painter.
She said we will have to get some paid things. Buse said Brookdale has a mascot called
Checkers who is a monkey. Checkers is part of a "play it safe" campaign. She said he
may be available on Friday.
BARN DANCE: Kragness reported the donations from the banks will be
enough to cover the band. Marquette and Norwest Banks are sponsoring the barn dance
and will promote it in their ads. The chamber has promised volunteers. Kragness has
talked to Bev Wilson, line dance instructor, about the possibility of bringing students to
the opening ceremony at Brookdale.
BINGO: LaCrosse will set up a meeting with members of the swim club.
CAR SHOW: LaCrosse said Nerburn has turned in the certificate of insurance and
flyer.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Buse will talk to Baskin Robbins about ordering ice cream.
The band is secured and should be set up prior to the opening ceremony. Line dance •
demonstration will be scheduled right after the opening ceremony.
JUNIOR ROYALTY: Graham said the applications are out and coming in. The
pool party is scheduled for May 21. On May 26 from 5-8 p.m. there will be a fundraiser
at Burger King. Part of the proceeds from the event will be donated. Graham asked
Dorff if he could find a place for them to have the judging dinner. She said last year's
dinner at the Olive Garden was great but the children didn't eat. It will be held on June
20 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. He will contact Cracker Barrel, Ground Round and Bridgeman's.
If they won't donate the whole amount, he will try to get a partial donation. Graham
reported her signs will be made by Kentco. The graphic will be on line in the computer
if other committees need signs. Ditty is still negotiating the price with Kim for the
Brooklyn Center High School. Trophies By Linda has the logo. Kragness said she would
like to see committee trophy needs coordinated. We might be able to get a better price.
Kragness reminded committee members to follow the procedure for purchasing.
LaCrosse said she will make copies and send out with the next minutes.
FISHING CONTEST: Ditty said he knows someone who is interested in
demonstrating fishing techniques before the contest. LaCrosse said they could do it at
11:30 a.m. He said the sponsor is secured and will donate the prizes and some small gift
items for the bags. •
PARADE: LaCrosse asked if the parade route had been determined. Ditty said the
police department thought it would work out to run down 69th. It was his impression
that it was okay with Mr. Splinter if the police approved. He will check on it.
TALENT CONTEST: LaCrosse said there are seven applications.
NEW BUSINESS: Ditty said he is working on having a "Teen Bop Dance" at the police
sub station. They will use the City's showmobile and the Lions' concession stand. They
are trying to reserve one of the spaces in the complex in case of rain. The admission
charge will be a can of food. They have talked to Neilson about getting a magician and
will have a sound and light show. The event would be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on
Saturday evening. There was a motion by Bergeland, seconded by Pollock to approve
this event. Motion carried. LaCrosse asked when the event details will be available for
publicity purposes. Ditty said he could get them by the end of the week.
Ditty brought in a sample t-shirt in an ash color. It would also be available in white.
LaCrosse said there has been some interest from City employees in buying t-shirts and
wearing them during the week of EBD. She added that she has no idea what the
interest from the public would be in purchasing them. The community center has
inadequate storage and if we were to sell t-shirts, she is concerned about storing them

from year to year. Ditty said we could order 100 and since the graphic would be ;on file,
is it would be easy to reorder. The cost is $6.50 per shirt no matter what the quantity.
XXL would be $1 more. He thought the children's sizes were also $6.50. The polo shirt
would cost $12 and hats would cost $7.50. Bergeland said she would be interested in
purchasing a polo shirt.
Swanson arrived at 8:30 a.m.
Swanson said she will be meeting with the employee action committee shortly and would
find out if there is an interest in buying t-shirts and/or hats. We might get a better idea
of what should be ordered. The t-shirts could be sold at the community center and at
the various events. Ditty will bring full details to the next meeting.
PUBLICITY: Swanson passed out logo sheets. She is working on designing the
arts & crafts fair and the EBD schedule posters. She will bring drafts to the next
meeting.
She talked about the NW Cities Program. Once a month the City gets to promote an
event. This month it will be "Summer In The City." One of the events to be highlighted
is EBD. She said LaCrosse will do about a 1'/a - 2 minute commentary and then there
will be several minutes featuring various activities.
