HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994 04-11 EBDM • Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes April 11, 1994 PRESENT: Risley, Pollock, Ditty, Neilson, Roen, Kragness, Bergeland, Ginger Stees (tennis club), Mike Maslow (Sun Post), and LaCrosse. The meeting was called to order at 7:37 a.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Neilson to approve the minutes of March 8, 1994. Motion carried. TALENT CONTEST: Neilson said he has received labels from the State Fair and St. Paul Winter Carnival. Applications should go out May 1. Neilson was concerned about extra acts this year. LaCrosse said the contest could start at 6:30 p.m. and the center is open until 10 p.m. Neilson said he hoped we would need the extra time. JUNIOR ROYALTY: Graham asked LaCrosse if she would submit news releases to • NorthWest News and the Post if she gave her copy. LaCrosse said yes. Ditty said it costs $2 to bring in microphone lines, $20/hour to have a sound person, with a minimum of two hours. The supervisors will work for free. Community Ed. will check to see if we can clean up ourselves. Otherwise, it is $33/hour for custodian. Graham asked if Dorff could check with Cracker Barrel to see if they would be interested in sponsoring the judging dinner for about 18-20 children and judges. LaCrosse will ask him. PARADE: Risley said the stuff is coming in. He said there is a possibility of moving parade route. He said right now there are major security problems and at 65th everything slows up because of the judging area. It creates big gaps in the parade. He is proposing we continue to use the Evergreen Park/School area for lineup and run the parade straight up 69th Ave. This way fewer homes would be inconvenienced, there would be less traffic problems, and there wouldn't be the large gaps. LaCrosse said the city manager is thinking about it and is concerned about dispersement. Risley said the businesses in the area will be contacted for parking. ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR: Bergeland said there are 36 crafters and 4 food vendors to date. The food vendors include mini donuts, Pizza Hut, Baker's Square, and sausage/meats. There has been a 50% response with the postcards. She said Pat Holcomb will help with the show. 1 BARN DANCE: Kragness reported she has signed the contract for the band. She will contact line dance instructor. She would like to get some of the students to perform at the ice cream social. TENNIS TOURNAMENT: Stees said she has sent out a letter to the members asking for help at the tournament. LaCrosse asked her to add Earle Brown Days, Inc. to the waiver form. LaCrosse told her the recreation department could do the flyer. BINGO: Ditty confirmed the swim club will host. FISHING CONTEST: Ditty said he has a sponsor. He has an application for them to be in the parade. PUBLICITY: LaCrosse said Merrill Busch did not call her back with available dates to meet with the committee. Bergeland said she will contact him. Mike Maslow from the Sun Post said he would like input on story ideas and would like to make a bigger tabloid. Kragness said we are looking at the historical aspect of Earle Brown and in getting children more involved. Maslow asked if we had names of people who could be interviewed both from a historic and an events view. Pollock asked about having a history quiz throughout the tabloid. BUDGET: There was a motion by Risley, seconded by Ditty to approve the 1994 proposed budget. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS: There was a motion by Bergeland,eland seconded b Graham to • � Y appoint Pat Holcomb to the board of directors for a 3 year term which would expire December 1997. Motion carried. Kragness asked if anyone would be interested in attending "Strengthening Festival and Event Management" seminar in May. The cost is $22 and she thought Earle Brown Days should pay for it. Ditty, Graham, and Neilson might be interested. She will also call Holcomb. There was a motion by Risley, seconded by Bergeland for Earle Brown Days, Inc. to pay the fee of any board members that want to attend. Motion carried.
