HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994 03-08 EBDM 1 Earle Brown Days Brooklyn Center Minnesota 6301 Shingle Creek Parkway 55430 (612)569-3400 Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes March 8, 1994 PRESENT: Cohen, Ditty, Risley, Nerburn, Pat Holcomb, Bergeland, Kragness, Graham and LaCrosse. The committee welcomed and introduced themselves to Pat Holcomb. APPROVALOF MINUTES: There was a motion by Cohen, seconded by Ditty to approve the minutes of February 8, 1994, FINANCIAL REPORT: Kragness reported a balance of $9,113.94 as 3/8/94. AMBASSADORS: Cohen said he would like to get the letters out. He would • like to get enough money donated so we don't have to eat into the $9,000 because with budget cuts we do not know what next year will bring. He asked Kragness if we could use the next meeting to approve the budget. He asked committee chairs if they anticipated any extra expenses this year. Graham said there may be some extra expenses with junior royalty because their coronation will be held at Brooklyn Center High School. Ditty said he will find out just what those expenses will be. LaCrosse said she has proposed the purchase of a two sided banner. ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR: Bergeland said she has created a grid to track people who have participated in previous shows. She has received three crafter applications and checks already. Many have also sent back the postcard to stay on the mailing list. BARN DANCE: Kragness said the group Dakota will cost $1,450. She would like to have line dance lessons before the band plays. Line dance contests will be held during break with trophies given out instead of prizes. The chamber of commerce will provide volunteers. BINGO: Ditty said the swim club needs to know what to do. LaCrosse said there is nothing formally written. The seniors have always done it. She suggested a meeting with the person in charge. 1 CAR SHOW: Nerburn reported that 5,000 flyers were given out at the World of Wheels show. He will make sure we get a copy of the club's insurance. This year's show • will be held indoors too. The Corvette club will be invited. Nerburn would like to have the food vendor who sells corn. ICE CREAM SOCIAL: No report from Brookdale. LaCrosse said the community band was put back in the '94 budget. She "will check with Brookdale to make sure they want them to perform. JUNIOR ROYALTY: Graham said there is no problem in going to Brooklyn Center High School. She would like to get in the building around 10 a.m. Ditty said there are two volunteers for building supervision that day. Graham said applications will be available soon. The birth dates for this year's applicants are 9/2/87 - 8/31/89. She will call LaCrosse with the deadline date for application. Graham wants to nominate Kragness for the Rotary Volunteer of the Year Award. There was a motion by Graham, seconded by Ditty to nominate her for the award. Risley said he wanted Kragness nominated. for the Distinguished Skipper Award through the Aquatennial. This award recognizes volunteers involved in local festivals. There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Risley to nominate Kragness for this award. These motions carried. Graham reported the junior royalty children will be participating in a number of events. • LaCrosse asked her if the insurance would cover all parades if purchased for June 1 - October, 31, 1994 . Graham said yes. KID'S FISHING CONTEST: Ditty said he possibly has a sponsor. The man is still trying to decide. LaCrosse told Cohen we may have some added expenses with this event if we don't get a sponsor. PARADE: Risley said he got the money for this year's parade. Next year he might not, but that he would fight for it. This year he would like to buy new radios and update equipment because he doesn't know how much money he will get next year. He reported the letters went out. PICNIC/GAMES: LaCrosse said Dorff sent in his budget. SUNDAY IN CENTRAL PARK: No report. TALENT CONTEST: No report. TENNIS TOUIV,AMENT: No report. HALL OF FAME: LaCrosse said Jane from the Historical Society called and they will not have an event this year. • 2 PAYMENT OF BILLS: 0 American Speedy Print $ 45.26 Postcards - Arts & Crafts Fair American Speedy Print 250.54 Envelopes & letterhead Minneapolis Aquatennial 175.00 Registration - Junior Royalty Minnesota Street Machine 800.00 Car show fee There was a motion by Risley, seconded by Graham to pay these bills. Motion carried. Kragness reported on a pedal pull for children. She said maybe Dorff would want to look into it for picnic/games. She said she had literature from Pickett Circus. They have 3 parade units for $575. Risley said no because of price. Bergeland is interested in the monkey as entertainment at Arts & Crafts Fair. Kragness said there is a request from the LPGA for us to sell tickets to the golf tournament as a fund raiser for our organization. EBD would receive 10% fee for tickets sold. The committee is not interested. LaCrosse will put together the budget proposal for the next meeting as requested by Cohen. Proposed budgets are still needed form Junior Royalty, Arts & Crafts Fair, Parade, Barn Dance and Talent Contest. PUBLICITY: Terri Swanson arrived at 8:30 a.m. She reported she had some . theme ideas. "Earle Brown Days where family fun is not a thing of the past." "Family fun is here to stay." Kragness suggested "Family fun past & present." Holcomb suggested "Continuing tradition of family fun." "Earle Brown Days, where family fun is a tradition." The committee discussed the possibility of changing the logo. LaCrosse said we will be doing the summer brochure very shortly and the EBD schedule will be included. If we want to change the logo, it would be nice to have it in the summer brochure. Risley said he would like to see something done with recognizing Earle Brown, a man and his contribution to the community because Earle Brown Days goes beyond the barn. It was decided we would try to hold a meeting with Merrill Busch as soon as possible to see if he could design a new logo. Bergeland will set up a meeting and those committee members that can attend will do so. NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, April 12, 1994, 7:30 a.m.,City Hall Conference Room A.
