Meeting Minutes
October 12, 1993
PRESENT: Ditty, Risley, Dorff, Poli„:i, , Roen, Kragness, Berge?and and LaCrosse.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Dorff, seconded by Roen to
approve the minutes of July 27, 1993. �.�otion carried.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
ARTS & CRAFTS: No report.
BINGO: LaCrosse said the seniors ar;; not interested in running Bingo anymore. She
said in place of Bingo, we could offer a Mini 500 Tournament. The tournaments are held
once a month in Constitution Hall. These %vould be people to run it. It would not be a
family event. Risley said he would like to check with the Lioness Club and Ditty would like
to check with the Brooklyn Swim Ch!b to see if eitri;r is interested in sponsoring Bingo.
• LaCrosse said we would need to know! by the November meeting.
7:45 a.m. Neilson and Cohen arrived.
CAR SHOW: No report.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL: No report.
JUNIOR ROYALTY: No report.
FISHING CONTEST: No report.
PARADE: There was a motion by Risley, seconded by Ditty to replace the
check for the Liberty Bell. Motion carried,
PICNIC/GAMES: Dorff will do research on new games while in Arizona.
Cohen passed out an example of the eertificates that will be given to the businesses who
contributed to the 1993 Earle Brown Days. He also displayed the beautiful frames purchased
by Dorff at K-Mart. Dorff requested a committee to help distribute the certificates. Ditty,
Roen and Neilson would be willing to help.
PUBLICITY: No report.
• Neilson asked if the trophy bills had been paid. LaCrosse said yes and she asked Trophies
By Linda to send all future invoices to her.
SUNDAY IN CENTRAL PARK: No report.
TALENT CONTEST: Neilson said he will be able to get the names and addresses of •
those participating at the State Fair. They usually recei�,e about 400 - 500 applications.
There was discussion about where to hold the contest. LaCrosse said when she contacted
Brooklyn Center High School about the childrens' dance recital, she was told they did not
permit dancing on stage. Neilson said he %will contact Brookdale. Possible dates are June
20, 21 & 23.
TENNIS TOURNA'_VIENT: Kragness said they should have someone attend
the meetings. LaCrosse suggested that Kragness draft a letter to send to their president.
HALL OF FAME: LaCrosse said she had hoped that someone from the historical
society would be able to attend today's meeting. LaCrosse said she was contacted by Ernee.
The historical society may be interested in inducting a new member next year. They are also
interested in recognizing long time married couples residing in Brooklyn Center. They were
possibly interested in recognizing them at the Barn Dance. Cohen said people pay to come
to the dance and want to dance and listen to the band. He said that they recognized Dr. Orn
at Brookdale a couple years ago and it did not work out too well. After further discussion, it
was determined by the committee this activity would not be appropriate at any of the Earle
Brown Days events. It was suggested they submit a proposal to sponsor their own event.
BARN DANCE: Neilson asked Kragness if she wanted Killer Hayseeds back.
Sbe said yes. Neilson said he will try to p-et them for the same price as last year. Kragness •
said she would like to add a line dance contest. Neilson said this went over very well at
Maple Grove's festival.
PAYMENT OF BILLS:
Henry Dorff Frames for certificates $71.14
There was a motion by Pollock, seconded by Cohen to approve payment. Motion carried.
Ditty asked if anything had been done about bungee jumping. LaCrosse said she had a good
article about it and will mail it with the next minutes. She said after reading this article, she
strongly recommends against it for Earle Brown Days.
NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, November 9, 7:30 a.m. City Hall Conference Room A.
