Meeting Minutes
July 27, 1993
PRESENT: Ditty, Roen, Kragness, Dorff, Bergeland, Nyquist, Cohen, Risley and
LaCrosse.
Meeting was called to order at 7:41 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of July 13 were approved.
OLD BUSINESS:
PARADE: Risley said he received one complaint letter about the go
• carts. The person thought they were dangerous. LaCrosse said that was brought up at
the last meeting. Cohen said there were big gaps in the parade because of band
routines. Risley said he is thinking about moving the judges toward the end of the
parade. The judges told him they can deduct points if a band spends too much time by
the judges.
AMBASSADORS: Cohen would like to send appreciation plaques to businesses
that contributed. There was a motion by Roen, seconded by Risley to approve an
expense, not to exceed $200, for the plaques. Motion carried. LaCrosse said Rotary,
Lions and the North Metro Tourism should receive something. Nyquist said Rotary
should receive a certificate; Risley said the Lions Club should receive a certificate.
Bergeland said North Metro Tourism should receive a plaque.
ARTS & CRAFTS: Bergeland said the arts & crafts fair made half of what was
taken in. The exhibitors would like to see some entertainers next year, such as
musicians, strolling artists and face painting. Bergeland said this would cut into profits.
There is room to add 40 crafters which would bring in more revenue. Ditty suggested
someone from the Renaissance Festival. Bergeland said they had thought about a
children's play area but the there is the liability factor. LaCrosse suggested the Atlantis
Theatre group out of Brooklyn Park and the Brooklyn. Community Band. There was a
motion by Risley, seconded by Dorff to have Bergeland look into entertainment at a
reasonable price. Motion carried.
• CAR SHOW : Kragness read an evaluation by Nerburn about the car show. He
said it was not good to hold two events at the same place. The car show needs the
Hippodrome because the show is expanding. It was also difficult to regulate the
admissions because people were coming in through another door. Ditty said he would
be willing to look into the use of the auditorium at Brooklyn Center High School for
junior royalty.
