HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993 06-22 EBDM I b Earle Brown Days Brooklyn Center Minnesota 6301 Shingle Creek Parkway 55430 (612)569-3400 Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes June 22, 1993 PRESENT: Kragness, Dorff, Risley, Cohen, Ditty, Graham, LaCrosse and Neil Olson. Meeting was called to order at 7:35 a.m. Kragness introduced Neil Olson who wanted to submit a proposal for bungee jumping at Earle Brown Days. He said he had a cancellation in Duluth and would like to do this in conjunction with Earle Brown Days. He said he had a $2 million insurance policy and would add the City as co-insured. He added there is a waiver for participants. Brookdale said he could not have it on their property. Neilson and Pollock arrived at 7:40 a.m. Roen and Stewart arrived at 7:44 a.m. Olson said they bring a 45 ton crane and an air bag. He passed around a brochure and • pictures. Cohen said he is reading from madam chair that it would be too late for insurance and from a City administrative perspective. Roen asked about publicity. Olson said all you have to do is set it up. It has high exposure. Kragness said there are too many administrative things to take care of. Olson said he is used to doing the legwork. LaCrosse said we would have to check with the City attorney, the City's insurance and Earle Brown Days insurance. Then, there would need to be a report made to EBD board before they could sanction. We will not be having another meeting before EBD. Kragness said he should send us a proposal for next year. Risley asked what the benefit is to the committee. Olson said they would receive 10% of profits after insurance. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Dorff, seconded by Neilson to approve the minutes of June 17, 1993. Motion carried. AMBASSADORS: Cohen passed around a list of contributors. He said we are behind from last year. He will still try to get more money. ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR: LaCrosse said exhibitors are still calling to get in the show but we are filled. LaCrosse said there are a few posters left if anyone wants to take them out. Pollock said she would take some. BARN DANCE: Kragness will pick up the food friday. CAR SHOW: No report. ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Stewart said everything is set. She asked if the talent contest winners would be performing. Neilson said he didn't ask anyone yet. Cohen went through the schedule. Neilson will emcee. There will be an official declaration of Earle Brown Days by a councilmember. The junior royalty will be introduced. Kragness will do the recognition of major sponsors. LaCrosse said the band will be ready to play at 6:30 p.m. JUNIOR ROYALTY: The 1992 junior royalty introduced themselves. The parents who built the float were also introduced. PICNIC/GAMES: Dorff said everything is set. He has an outstanding list of prizes. He plans to call the Rotary volunteers. FISHING CONTEST: Dorff said he talked to Tom and everyone will get a frisbee and those who catch fish will get a hat. He will bring four rods and reels. Dorff said Tom has requested the cutting of some of the tall grass near the creek so kids can get down there easier. LaCrosse said she would talk to the park staff. PARADE: Risley said it is growing. We have over 90 units. He said we can accept units through today providing they can fill out the form today. PUBLICITY: LaCrosse said the ads have been running on cable. She has • received many calls from the Star Tribune ads. SUNDAY IN CENTRAL PARK: All set. TALENT CONTEST: Neilson said we had high quality of acts. Now we need to get the numbers. He would like to talk to Stewart about moving it back to Brookdale next year. Cummings arrived at 8 a.m. TENNIS TOURNAMENT: LaCrosse said she would like the committee to address the situation with the tennis club next year. There has been poor communication and the department has received many questions that can't be answered. She would like to see a representative attend some meetings. HALL OF FAME: Splinter said the committee appears to be all set to go. Ernee had the committee up here last week and they went through the event. Motion carried. TREASURER'S REPORT: Cummings reported a balance of $8,571.17prior to writing out checks from today's and Thursday's meeting. GOLF TOURNAMENT: Roen said he hasn't seen any publicity on this event. LaCrosse said the tournament usually fills on its own. The tournament is held in conjunction with EBD but run by Kurt, the golf course manager. OLD BUSINESS: Kragness discussed the Minnesota Festivals & Events Association. There was a motion by Risley, seconded by Pollock to join at the cost of $15. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS: LaCrosse said she got a call from Brooklyn Park yesterday and they would like to switch festival weeks with us. There was a motion by Cohen, seconded by Pollock that we have reviewed their request and because of everything in place for our event we kindly decline.
