PUBLICITY: LaCrosse passed around the proposed ads. She said the
communications coordinator recommends we adopt some type of theme each year and then
plan our publicity around the theme. For this year, she said we could use celebrate the fun,
Brooklyn Center hosts Earle Brown Days. She also said we should try to use the same
format for all our publicity. We will use the same format as shown on the flyer designed by
NorthWest News. LaCrosse said the communications coordinator is interested in being on
the committee next year.

LaCrosse said that Kin Video has submitted a cable proposal. The only charge would be a

$250 production charge and the ads would appear on stations such as CNN, USA, and
Lifetime. We would receive a minimum of 50 ads during the week of Earle Brown Days. It
may be closer to 100 ads. LaCrosse asked the committee what they wanted to have
included. Kragness said we should have the events that make money. She said community

television should have footage of the barn dance, parade, talent show, music and fireworks.
LaCrosse asked if they wanted the ad to start out with celebrate the fun, Brooklyn Center
hosts Earle Brown Days. Kragness said yes and we should have the fun includes....
LaCrosse said she will include as many events with dates as possible. There was a motion
by Dorff, seconded by Pollock to approve $250 for cable ads. Motion carried.
Bergeland arrived at 7:38 a.m.
LaCrosse said Roxana from NorthWest News and Lisa from the Post will be doing their
tabloids soon. She asked the committee what they would like to see as editorial in them.
There was no response. She then asked them if they would like her to work with the two
papers. They said yes. Last year Cohen took some pictures of the parade and the
picnic/games. LaCrosse will see if they can be included in the tabloids.
Graham arrived at 7:40 a.m.
. PARADE: Risley said there are 9 bands and 75 units so far. The Lions parade is hurting
us because they are attracting the big bands. Some of the other parades only have 2 bands.
So we are doing pretty good. LaCrosse asked him who was delivering the letter to the
residents in the area. He said the boy scouts will deliver them at no charge. She asked him
if he wanted the parks and recreation department to run them off. He said yes and it would
be updated.
ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR: Bergeland said she needs to have the packets sent out to
crafters and food vendors. She has address labels made out and they are attached to the
packet. The food vendors need the list of rules also. Bergeland reported there are 56
crafters and 5 food vendors, 15 ahead of last year.
CAR SHOW: Nerburn said everything is going well. Kragness asked about selling
food. Nerburn said only if we had volunteers to do it. She said she has volunteers who may
want to work the food stand. Nerburn said if we do sell food, we should look at only
hotdogs, pop and popcorn. Nerburn said the people really start coming at 10:30 a.m.
AMBASSADORS: LaCrosse said the checks have been coming in to her and passed
out a list of contributors as of May 21. Contributioiis total $2,950 so far.
TALENT CONTEST: There are about 10 contestants so far. Neilson said they usually
come in the week before the deadline. Neilson would like to look into holding the contest at
Brooklyn Center High School. They have the new auditorium. Graham said you have to
pay for a custodian and their sound and light people. Ditty said he will talk to Norwick and
get the exact costs. •
PICNIC/GAMES: Dorff said he worked on the games. He added kids to the balloon toss
and for the balloon toss pros, he added an egg toss. He will ask Rotary members to help
work again.
JUNIOR ROYALTY: Graham said the parent orientation went well and there are other
events planned including a pool party, bowling, Burger King and Earle Brown Days events.
She said she has a proposal for the committee. She said she has worked hard to make the
junior royalty a quality program and has worked hard for recognition in other communities.
She would like junior royalty to have their own float. She has purchased and is willing to
donate a trailer. The trailer cost $350. She is asking the board to match that amount for the
building and decorating supplies. Decorating supplies will cost about $183. Builder's
Square is willing to pay for 50% of building supplies. The parents will volunteer their time
to build it. LaCrosse said she had a few concerns. She will call the insurance company to
find out what the extra cost for liability insurance would be. She asked Graham how many
parades they would attend, how many would ride the float and what would be the months of
the parades. Graham said they would attend 10-12 parades from June through October with
approximately 6-10 people riding on the float. LaCrosse asked if they had a place to store it.
Graham said yes. LaCrosse asked what would happen to the float if Graham was no longer
involved with junior royalty and no one else wanted to chair it. Graham said the float would
be the property of Earle Brown Days and this would be written as such. LaCrosse asked •
what would be on the float. Graham said nothing had been decided yet. It would probably
say Junior Royalty with the City logo. LaCrosse said she will check to see if this is okay.
Nyquist said he will check with Rotary to see if they would be willing to pay the $350 for
the construction. LaCrosse asked how much the committee is willing to pay for insurance.
There was a motion by Nerburn, seconded by Roen to approve funds of $350 to build a
junior royalty float pending determination of costs for insurance not to exceed $300 without
board approval. Motion carried.
