HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014 09-17 AFM Amphitheater Fundraising Task Force September 17, 2014 Dr. Duane Orn called the meeting to order at 2:35 p.m. Present: Dr. Duane Orn, Earl Simons, Sharon Kephart, Myrna Kauth, Curt Boganey, Jim Glasoe, Janis Blumentals and Sue LaCrosse. Facts: Janis Blumentals reported he met with the low bidder. He said the estimate on May 7, 2014 was $410,500. The City engineering department got involved. $50,000 was added for parking spaces and establishing where the existing storm sewer is. This brought the estimate up to $460,500. He said the low bidder was $599,000. He said this was a good bid. The difference of $130,500 is 30% more. Why Off: Janis Blumentals reported they have been working on this for four years. The construction business is very busy. All materials affect the cost. He said 2015 doesn’t look any different. Beyond 2015, he doesn’t know. Curt Boganey asked if contingency was added. Janis Blumentals said no. He said he estimates contingency at 5-7%. Janis Blumentals said the low bidder has his own masonry and carpentry crew. Curt Boganey asked in Janis’s opinion if any of the additional work recommended by City staff could be eliminated. Janis Blumentals said the flood plain determination. Curt Boganey said the design has a lot of masonry and concrete. In general, based on Janis’s experience on other Amphitheater designs and/or materials, is it reasonable to think a different design and/or materials could result in a nice design at a reasonable cost. Janis Blumentals said removing the cupola, doing a shingle roof, and simplifying the masonry could save more money. He said bids are good for 60 days. Sharon Kephart suggested going back to the low bidder and asking them how much we would save if we took the column and cupola out and put up a wall in their place. Sue LaCrosse distributed some prefab band shells that Jim Glasoe has found. One of them is a barn style. Janis Blumentals said the price doesn’t include the footings and slab. It is only the structure. Sue LaCrosse will ask Jim Glasoe to get a little more information from them regarding costs for footings, slab and a smaller structure. Next Meeting: Wednesday, October 1, 2:30 p.m. Adjourn: There was a motion by Earl Simons, seconded by Sharon Kephart to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 3:45 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, Sue LaCrosse, Program Supervisor
