HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-090 CCRadoption: Member Kay Lasman introduced the following resolution and moved its RESOLUTION NO. 2000-90 RESOLUTION DECLARING MAY 15 AS PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY AND THE WEEK OF MAY 14-20,2000, AS POLICE WEEK WHEREAS, President John F. Kennedy authorized the proclamation that May 15th of each year be designated as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week of each year during such May 15 occurs as Police Week; and WHEREAS, police officers have worked devotedly and selflessly on behalf of the people of this community, regardless of the peril or hazard to themselves; and citizens; and WHEREAS, these officers have safeguarded the lives and property of their fellow WHEREAS, by the enforcement of our laws these same officers have given freedom from fear of violence and civil disorder; and WHEREAS, these men and women by their dedicated service have earned the gratitude of 1 the community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center that May 15th be declared Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week of May 14- 20, 2000, be declared as Police Week. Mav_ 8. 2000 Date Mayor Pro Tem ATTEST: _ City Clerk The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Robert Peppe and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Debra Hilstrom, Kay Lasman, Ed Nelson and Robert Peppe and the following voted against the same: none whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
