HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-061 CCRMember Dan Ryan introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 2016-6 1 RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF HEART SAFE BROOKLYN CENTER WHEREAS, Heart Safe Community was initiated by the Brooklyn Center Fire and Emergency Management to educate the public on Sudden Cardiac Arrest awareness, the Good Samaritan Laws, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and AED's for Public Access Defibrillation; and WHEREAS, Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the 91 killer in America and the #1 killer in the workplace - with a 95% mortality rate; 97% of SCA victims die awaiting 911 /EMS; however, AED/CPR in the first two minutes equal an 85% survival rate; and WHEREAS, proper training and awareness will save lives; and WHEREAS, the Brooklyn Center City Council received a presentation by Coon Rapids Officer Bryan Platz on what is a Heart Safe Community and what is the criteria/requirement to become a Heart Safe Community; and WHEREAS, under the City of Brooklyn Center's Strategic Plan to Enhance Community Image and to ensure a safe secure community, this proposal has the potential to achieve that goal for the City through an established program, a cadre of volunteers, and access to grant money; and WHEREAS, the Brooklyn Center City Council expressed its support for Heart Safe Brooklyn Center. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, upon recommendation of the City Manager, that the Brooklyn Center City Council is in full support of the City of Brooklyn Center becoming a Heart Safe Community and by adoption of this resolution directs staff to proceed for designation.
