Budget:
Sue LaCrosse reviewed the budget spreadsheet. She said if approved, there may be about a
$3,900 contribution from the City. Councilmember Kris Lawrence-Anderson said at the liquor store in
Aiken, they ask customers if they would like to round up their amount to the nearest dollar to go towards
the fireworks. She said this is the only way they have to fund fireworks.
ACTIVITIES/EVENTS:
Art Show. Lin Myszkowski said she does not think this could happen this summer. Someone
would have to spend some time going to art shows and talking to people. City Manager Curt
Boganey said he has a neighbor who is a professional photographer. He will talk to him.
5K Fun Run/Walk. Angie Crouch will contact Nate at Brooklyn Center High School. Tom
Shinnick will talk to the Camden Lions Club. Sue LaCrosse will contact Melvin Anderson if the
other two contacts don’t work out.
Fling Golf in Centennial Park. Sue LaCrosse said this is possible but we would need to have
other things going on because only a few people would be able to try at one time.
Environment. Keith Lester suggested talking to Three Rivers to see what they would like to do.
Jill Dalton could also be contacted.
Bike Tour. Three Rivers was suggested as a possible contact for a bike tour.
Yoga in the Park. Lin Myszkowski will contact April Graves and Jill Dalton.
Kids Dance. Angie Crouch reported they have a DJ and set up in a tent. They get the audience
up dancing and play family appropriate music. The cost is $500 for the first two hours and $100
for each additional hour. They bring all their own equipment.
Concerts. Ethnic and church choirs were suggested.
Other groups. Sue LaCrosse reported the information she received on children’s theater groups.
She said SteppingStone does not typically do performances. Heart of the Beast Puppet Show is
$350-500 depending on show. Homeward Bound has several different options. The House of
Hui lions were suggested.
CEAP Involvement – Canstruction. Sue LaCrosse reported that Jill Pettit said she will
coordinate this event.
1
Movie in the Park. Could possibly be held on Friday night. Cost would be around $400. Disney
movies work best.
Inflatables. Sue LaCrosse will check on costs.
Magic Show. Councilmember Kris Lawrence-Anderson suggested adding a magic show. She
said the magician at Holly Sunday is great.
Kids’ Crafts. Sue LaCrosse suggested we add this event as the kids really enjoy doing the crafts.

The committee discussed the schedule of activities for Saturday. Maybe schedule events for younger
kids in the morning. Sue LaCrosse said she was concerned about inviting food vendors because we
don’t know what kind of attendance we would get. When we had the Craft & Business Expo some of
those exhibitors purchased food and each got a coupon for free food. She said if we offered free food,
people would attend. She would love to see an ice cream social. Keith Lester said he held an event that
provided free popcorn and ice cream and then had food trucks that sold other foods. It was asked if there
is an arts association in Brooklyn Center.
