HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015 10-20 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes October 20, 2015 PRESENT Tom Shinnick, Lin Myszkowski, Cathy Ballot, Councilmember Kris Lawrence-Anderson, Keith Lester, Jill Pettit, Angie Crouch and Sue LaCrosse. Tom Shinnick called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES There was a motion by Cathy Ballot, seconded by Lin Myszkowski to approve the minutes of September 22, 2015. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT Cathy Ballot reported a checkbook balance of $9,205.75. Cathy Ballot said there are still three outstanding checks for the marching bands. Sue LaCrosse said she emailed the band directors after the last meeting. ACTIVITIES/EVENTS TO CONTINUE: The committee suggested the following events be continued: Parade, fireworks, fire truck, face painting, family fun & games and petting zoo. Steve Makowske said he will continue the golf event but will change the name to Golf Festival and include Fling Golf. The committee asked how many people the library had for their program and if children had to be accompanied by an adult. Sue LaCrosse will check. Cathy Ballot said Rotary would like to continue the Family Fun & Games event. She said in the past they have always had large numbers of people. The number of prizes given out will be decreased and they will look at having some new games. Lin Myszkowski said no to the craft & business expo. Sue LaCrosse said the Kids’ Fishing Contest should be eliminated. Few fish are caught and the number of participants has declined over the past few years. BRAINSTORM OF NEW EVENTS/ACTIVITIES: The new ideas included:  Art Show – juried, professional, teen, youth, cultural  5K Fun Run/Walk  Fling Golf in Centennial Park  Environment  Move concessions to upper level of community center or near community center door  Radio Disney  Bike Tour  Yoga in the Park  BC Dance Program  Just For Kicks  Concerts  Theater Company  Cultural Dance Group  CEAP Involvement – Food Sculpture, Canstruction  Movie in the Park 1  Puppet Show – Heart of the Beast  SteppingStone Theatre  Shakespeare in the Park  Brooklyn Park Drumline Sue LaCrosse said she would put all the ideas together for the next meeting. We would need to determine cost and who would organize and run the event. Councilmember Kris Lawrence-Anderson said we should reach out to the faith based communities. Keith Lester suggested adding something to the name, for example Earle Brown Days, The Magic Continues.
