CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE
COUNTY OF HENNEPIN AND STATE OF MINNESOTA
REGULAR SESSION
February 21, 2017
COUNCIL COMMISSION ROOM
CALL TO ORDER
The Brooklyn Center Housing Commission was called to order by Chairperson Goodell at 7:00
p.m.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Approval of the Agenda was put into motion by Commissioner Amdahl and seconded by
Commissioner Pagnac. The motion passed.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES –
Approval of the Amended Minutes of the Housing Commissions meeting held January 17, 2017
was put into motion by Commissioner Pagnac and seconded by Commissioner Amdahl. The
motion passed.
BUSINESS COUPON POLICY
The letter summarizing the Business Coupon Policy was discussed with some minor changes added
to the draft letter.
Council Member Lawrance Anderson suggested that if the Housing Commission wanted the
summary of the Business Coupon Policy letter put on the council agenda, it could be requested at
open forum.
Chairperson Goodell stated that the commission is considering implementing this for 2018.
Lawrance Anderson suggested that the information be provided at the joint meeting presentation.
Chairperson Goodell volunteered to make the recommendation at the joint work-session in addition

to seeking volunteers to help with delivery.
Staff Liaison Anderson questioned if the letter should be sent to council after the joint work-session?
Chairperson Lawrance-Anderson could request funding for a gift type items in addition to the bag.
The Housing Commission agreed to make changes to the letter and review it at the next Housing
Commission Meeting.
NEW NEIGHBOR BAG QUOTES
The Housing Commission reviewed economically efficient bag options from local companies and
The purchasing of bags with no logos to last until the new logo is approved.
COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT
Council Member Lawrance-Anderson stated that the construction of the sanctuary is moving along.
The Curbside Clean-up starts April 3rd. Thanking the housing commission for the recommendation
on this program.
Chairperson Goodell asked if The Curbside Clean-up is planned for every 2 years.
Council Member Lawrance-Anderson reaffirmed that every two years is correct and there is a map to
find the date of pickup.
Commissioner Amdahl stated that there is also the special material drop off day in Brooklyn Park.
Council Member Lawrance-Anderson stated that there are three new logo options currently up for
consideration. The topic arose after discussing the water tower painting.
Commissioner Baskins prefers the current tag line stating that the new logos seem outdated and
closely associated with non-profits.
Council Member Lawrance-Anderson mentioned the housing market study provided to the Housing
Commission and stated that the development could appear on the agenda within the next month.
This decision is critical because it will be in effect for 30 years, with the proposal possibly including
750 rental units.
Commissioner Houston stated that 750 is too many rental units.
Council Member Lawrance-Anderson suggested reading the report and having it discussed at a future
Housing Commission meeting.
CHAIRPERSONS REPORT
Chairperson Goodell reported:
At the Joint Commission Meeting we should be prepared to push for participation in the New
Neighbor Bag delivery and we should discuss a delivery schedule at the next meeting.
OTHER BUSINESS
There was no other business addressed by the Commission.
ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Amdahl put in motion that the meeting be adjourned. The motion was seconded
by Commissioner Houston and the motion passed. The Brooklyn Center Housing Commission
adjourned at 8:00p.m.
