HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017 03-16 PCPTO: The Members of the Planning Commission
FROM: Gary Eitel, Director of Business & Development
DATE: March 13, 2017
SUBJECT: March 16th Planning Discussion Items
Item 7 a) April 5, 2017 Annual Council – Commission Meeting
Review and comment on the 2016 development and planning activities
PowerPoint Presentation that will be presented by the Chair of the Planning
Commission at this joint meeting.
Item 7 b) 2020-2040 Comprehensive Planning Process:
Attached for your review is a copy of the executive summary of the 2017 City
Survey, a telephone survey of 400 randomly selected adult residents residing in
the City of Brooklyn Center and the slides that were presented at the February
27th City Council Meeting.
I thought this community survey may be a logical starting point for our discussion
of the 2010 Planning Issues Map:
Activities/Improvements completed
Activities/Improvements that are ongoing
Activities/Improvements that never started.
The identifying a base/starting point in the development of the 2020 Issues Map
will assist in the 2017 – 2018 out-reach for public input.
The neighborhood park meetings scheduled this year are:
Kylwan Park May 18th
Orchard Park June 15th
East Palmer Lake July 20th
Lions Park September 14th.
Additional opportunities include Earle Brown Days, Music in the Park events,
Neighborhood Out Night, …..
The issues identified will continue to evolve as additional public input is
provided.
Another planning tool to gain public input would be to have an exhibit that
identifies the Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities, Threats. Using the Planning
Commission and recent Council-retreat (SWOT) analysis as a base, we could get
public input that would be helpful in casting a vision for the next planning cycle.
