HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017 05-08 CCM Study SessionMINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BROOKLYN CENTER IN THE COUNTY OF HENNEP1N AND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA STUDY SESSION MAY 8, 2017 CITY HALL - COUNCIL CHAMBERS CALL TO ORDER The Brooklyn Center City Council met in Study Session called to order by Mayor Tim Willson at 6:04 p.m. ROLL CALL Mayor Tim Willson and Councilmembers Marquita Butler, April Graves, Kris Lawrence- Anderson, and Dan Ryan. Also present were City Manager Curt Boganey, Finance Director Nate Reinhardt, Public Works Director/City Engineer Steve Lillehaug, Director of Business and Development Gary Eitel, Police Chief Tim Gannon, and Carla Wirth, TimeSaver Off Site Secretarial, Inc. CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSION OF AGENDA ITEMS AND QUESTIONS None. MISCELLANEOUS Hennepin County Technical Advisory Trunk Highway 252 Task Force Mayor Willson stated he and City Manager Curt Boganey have been in communication regarding the Hennepin County Technical Advisory Trunk Highway 252 Task Force and determined he (Mayor Willson) will serve as the primary voter on this Task Force and City Manager Boganey will serve as the secondary. Mayor Willson explained another Councilmember can be part of the process to be informed of the meetings, although it would be an ex officio capacity. He asked the Councilmembers to let him know if they would be interested. Crime Prevention Golf Tournament Councilmember Ryan asked Councilmember Butler, who serves as the City Council's liaison to Crime Prevention, about sponsoring a hole for the Friday, May 19, 2017, Crime Prevention Golf Tournament. Mayor Willson stated his intent to sponsor a hole. Councilmember Butler stated the cost is $100 per hole or $25 per Councilmember. Councilmember Ryan stated his intent to contribute towards that with the rest of the Councilmembers. Councilmember Butler stated she will sponsor a hole with the Councilmembers but is unable to attend. City Manager Boganey stated he plans to get a team together and play. 05/08/17 -1- Signage of the Sanctuary Councilmember Graves asked if the Sanctuary developer can be asked to install a 'Coming Soon' sign so residents know what this project will be. Mayor Willson asked Mr. Boganey to contact the developer to determine if that is an option. Mr. Boganey stated he will contact the developer and explained the Sanctuary plans to set up an office and accept applications in June. Young Elected Officials Network Councilmember Graves stated she submitted a rough draft agenda for the Young Elected Officials Network conference and asked when it will be considered. Mr. Boganey stated that topic will be on the next agenda. ADJOURNMENT Councilmember Ryan moved and Councilmember Lawrence-Anderson seconded to close the Study Session at 6:12 p.m. Motion passed unanimously. 05/08/17 -2- STATE OF MINNESOTA) COUNTY OF HENNEPIN) ss.
