Brooklyn Center, Minnesota 55429
Dear Mrs. Bathory:
It has recently come to our attention that a sign
advertising "Lorraine's Beauty Shop" has been installed
on your property adjacent to 63rc Avenue North. I wish
to advise you that the City's coning ordinance regulates
the use of property within the City, including signery. The
following quotation from the ordinance is pertinent in the
case of your sign, situated as it is on R-1 zoned property:
Unlighted nameplates not exceeding one square
foot in area, with a 24 inch maximum for any
dimension, bearing the name of the occupant of
a residences and bulletin boards for schools
or other public or semi-public institutions
not exceeding 30 square feet in area with a
seven foot maximum for any dimension.
d. Unlighted real estutc "For Sale" or "For Rent"
signs not exceeding two square feet in area,
with a 24 inch maximum for any dimension."
As you can see by a review of the above provisions, your sign
is not legally permitted.
It should be remembered that your property is not a
commercial property, but a single family home, granted special
use permission by the Council (October 6, 1959) for the

The Honorable Village Council, and,
The Honorable Planning Commission, of
The Village of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota
We respectfully represent that we are landowners and taxpayers
residing in Garden City 5th Addition to the Village of Brooklyn
Center, Minnesota, and are owners of the parcels at the address
appearing next to our signatures,
That, whereas, Mrs Lorraine Peterson, 3501- 63rd Avenue
North, Brooklyn Center, an owner and taxpayer in Garden City
5th Addition, has petitioned your honorable body for a variance
permit so as to enable her to conduct and operate a beauty
parlor at said address, and,
Whereas, we are convinced that such use of her premises
will protect and promote the public health, safety and general
welfare of the people of Brooklyn Center, will not impede or
obstruct adequate light, air and safety from fire for occupants,
will conserve the value of said land and buildings, will not
conflict with a balanced tax base between residential, commercial
and industrial uses, will not cause congestion in the public
streets, will be compatible with the residential land use in
the area, and would be in harmony with the general purpose and
intent of the Zoning Ordinance of the Village,
We, therefore, do not object to the use she contemplates, and
support her petition, and pray that your honorable body act
favorably in her behalf and grant her petition.
Respectfully yours,
N
