TO: Planning Commission RE: Proposed Construction
Brooklyn Center Plans on Unity Avenue
between 62nd and 63rd
Avenues North
FROML: Residents of the Lynside I4anor, Third Addition
It has come to the attention of the residents in
the 5200 and 5300 blocks on 62nd and 622 Avenue North that
several multiple dwelling units are nla.nned for construction
on Unity Avenue between 62nd and 63rd Avenues North.
A petition voicing protest to this proposed
project has been signed by all the residents in the 5200
and 5300 blocks on 62nd and 622 Avenues North. This petition
also includes a protest against continuing 62 and 622 Avenues
North through to Unity Avenue.
Some of the reasons for protest are listed below.
Construction of multiple type dwellings in the
area mentioned would create a large amount of traffic and thus
would endanger the lives of the children presently residing in
the area. The residents concerned purchased homes in this
area primarily in view of the small amount of traffic expected
due to the dead end streets. The salesman representing the
Ken Bergstrom company openly stated the fact that this was a
wonderful area in which to purchase a home because there
would be very little traffic. This he said was due to the
fact that these avenues were dead end. Further, the residents
were aware of the air traffic concerned, however, they sacrific
this for the dead end street and a reduced traffic situation.
The construction of apartment tyre dwellings would
change the character of a present one -owner private dwelling
area into an apartment rentil area.. It is a generally
accepted fact that home ownership promotes pride and there-
fore lends to a well kept neighborhood. Transient people
who normally rent cannot be expected to take this pride in
the neighborhood and community and therefore could lower
property values in the entire area.
One of the selling; points that was stressed by
the Ken -Ray Reality Company was that this area was made up
of a stable homogenious group of people living in private
single dwellings. Prior planning of a change in the area
should have included a consultation with the residents who
purchased their homes under the above conditions.
TO: Planning Commission
Village of Brooklyn Center
We, the undersigned, residing on 621- Avenue north
in the 52, 53 hundred blocks, Village of Brooklyn
Center, would like to voice protest against the
possibility of 621 Avenue North becoming a thru
street. We also object to construction of apart-
ment dwellings on Unity Avenue North on the 621
hundred block.
We, the undersigned, object to the above
proposed plans due to the increased traffic problems
created by such a proposal. Also the construction
of apartment dwellings would change the character of
a present one owner private dwellings area into an
apartment rental area.
